Suppose I want to get a previously registered domain from an auction. Is there any way to tell if it's been Google Slapped before? I understand, that once Google lays it's pimp hand, that site won't be turning tricks again..

I also have a bad feeling that there's really no way to tell. Please let me know if you know of a way to detect the slap...

Idk if there is a way to find out. Ask Google? I doubt there would be a tool for this.....

There actually are several tools for it although I can't find them in my bookmarks..

If anyone one of the domains you buy does get slapped though, you can always appeal it to Google and they will usually fix it if you provide a solid case...

I like looking at what pages are showing up in the index. Compare how many it says versus how many show up when they start going supplemental..

Or if they cant rank for their name or url..

Something is wrong..

Anyone know any definite ways?..

I've heard that Google can easily tell when domains have changed ownership and that is why page rank doesn't pass on to new site owner so I would assume the slap wouldn't pass on either...

One of our clients got slapped once, but now they are back up after making changes to the site..

I don't know about site history, you can always check site:domain or links:domain and if you know you have pages up at that domain and it's showing nothing, it's slapped...

I think you are talking about site being banned on the search engine and not being slapped by adwords...

Laff. Set up an AdWords account for the domain. Buy a handful of competitive keywords and see if you get $10 min bids right off the bat. That would be a good indicator...

Digg it, stumble it, blog and ping it (whatever)... and wait. If after a short time it isn't indexed with google, then you have a dead goat! (works?)..

No, there really isn't. I got burnt twice. The domains were never indexed at all...
