Help requested immediately!!
Hello everyone.

I saw a very affordable price for a nikon, but it says it's a factory demo. The merchant is a trusted merchant, but is it safe to buy a factory demo product? Has anyone bought and used a factory demo product? Is it more susceptable for defects than a brand new one? The merchant is very reliable, so can I believe this will be as reliable as a new nikon? I do not hope to buy another dslr for a long time, can I expect the same life from this factory demo as a brand new camera?.

Please reply asap, as I believe there will not be many of these, and if it's reliable, I want to buy one immediately..

I have one more question. Will the prices of dslrs fall for thanksgiving or for black friday?.

Thanks!Raj..

I'd sure do it. If it had any flaws from the factory the store should have discovered them so it's like a test-driven model. It should come with a full warranty so that isn't a problem. Assuming it's undamaged I wouldn't hesitate.Patrick T. KellyOaxaca, Mexico..

I buy factory/deler demo's from Cameta Camera often, So far so good but the Warranty is different (never needed it) but I would check that out and then decide if it's a good enough deal or not..

I'd suggest confirming that the camera includes a full Nikon warranty, and that it comes with all of the accessories and manuals..

With other electronic equipment, it's not uncommon for stores to sell demo items which have some of the manuals or accessories missing. That can affect whether you're really getting a good deal...

I've done the same with Cameta as well and I've always been pleased..

Most of the time, the people are just fiddling with them and they don't even have power. Just look for nicks and dents so that you know it hasn't been dropped or something. But generally, they've just sat in a case and been handled occasionally...

Are you *very* sure about that? What merchant?.

Even many merchants that appear to be OK via some store ratings systems are selling gray market Nikon gear (not intended for sale in the country you live in)..

Their listing often have misleading descriptions like full US Warranty, one year US Warranty, etc., when it's only a store warranty..

*Always* check a vendor using the store ratings search you'll find at http://www.resellerratings.com.

They're better than most ratings sites at keeping fake reviews out (stores will pad their own ratings in the case of Brooklyn based scam artists, and there are lots of them with very nice looking web sites with lots of important looking logos and store ratings emblems)..

Nikon will refuse to service a camera that is not intended for sale in the region you live in, even if you are willing to pay them for the service. They will know by the camera's serial number..

Cameta Auctions on Ebay is reputable (the gear they sell really is intended for sale in the US in the case of their reconditioned Nikon gear..

Has anyone bought and used a factory demoproduct?.

I would not hesitate to buy a genuine factory reconditioned Nikon camera versus a new one if I were going to buy Nikon. I bought a reconditioned camera directly from Nikon some years back via their http://www.nikonmall.com web site (they sell some reconditioned gear directly to the public there from time to time)..

I couldn't tell it from a brand new camera in any way (and that also goes for the software, manuals, cables, etc. that were included)..

From my perspective, the only downside is a 90 day warranty from Nikon. Some stores will agree to warrant it for longer..

But, even with 90 days, from my perspective, in the unlikely event it breaks during that timeframe, I would have probably saved enough to have it repaired versus a new model anyway, depending on the savings..

Chances are, it's not going to be any more likely to break than a new one would be over time (probably less likely, since it's been checked over very carefully for any problems)..

The demos DO have the same warranty (at least from Cameta), I was thinking about the last D2x I bough, that was a refurb and is the one with a different warranty..
