Help me choose my P&S
I'm in the market for a P&S.USE: party pics, low light, maybe some concert and outdoor pics..

I'm looking at the Canon sd870 IS and the sd790 IS..

Sd870 has wide angle and 4x Op Zoom.

Sd790 has 10mp.

Do I want the wide angle/zoom or the MPs? I can't find these cameras in a store near me..

I know there's slightly different shudder speeds etc if that affects the photo-taking, but I don't know which would be better for my use..

I won't be printing very many photos. I am not interested in photoshopping wide angle pics with curve if it's that noticeable, though it would be nice for landscape pictures. I like to take some video. My G3 was great for video I thought. I liked the 4x zoom for outdoor..

My biggest pet peave is lag. Party pics or band photos you want to capture the moment. Would one focus/take faster?.

I am looking at the canon's because it's what I've always had. Is there another camera I should consider? Compact is important, as well as speed and low light photos without flash. Fuji fd100? I'm shy to go to a different brand, admittedly..

Last, the sd790 is supposed to be redesigned. Style gets points for a party camera. Is it more stylish/easy to use or not?.

Thanks in advance...

Go for the wideangle for your uses, maybe hang on until the Panasonic LX3 is released as that has a fast lens which will be ideal for you - though in mentioning low light and shutter lag you have highlighted the two areas where any P&S will be mediocre and where dSLRs excel..

I just bought the sd790 2 weeks ago and decided on it over the 870 due to what I judged to be better IQ in sample pics from various users. I spent a week taking a few hundred pics with it and I was very impressed. My daughter is due home from vacation with the camera late tomorrow night and I'll post a few pictures then. Both cameras imo are stylish...

In available light the SD870 wins on speed. Dunno about flash recycle time..

I got my hands on a 750 (of course) a 870is and also an 1100is..

I realized how much different the size is and how important ultra-compact is in my decision, and am reconsidering the 770is, and perhaps the 1100is..

The 770is is basically a cooler 750, though I haven't found one in person. It would be nice to get all 4 including the 790is in hand..

Part of the size consideration is due to backpacking, which is one cool point for an OVF and a smaller LCD/camera, though i'm 50/50 in the larger LCD dept..

Any feedback on the 770is and 1100is in the low-light/ shudder lag/ video?.

Would you rather have a larger LCD or OVF?.

Virtual shopping woes. ..

If your hiking takes the form of a week long trek, then the OVF has a real advantage. As you can leave the LCD turned off and save on battery drain. But this will not be a factor in a day hike..

As for the LCD, in my view the performance (or quality) is more important than the size. It needs to have a brightness boost feature (usually timed to be a few seconds) to deal with daylight outdoors. Also helps if it has a wide viewing angle. Unfortunately the reviews don't try to measure this stuff. But at least side-by-side in the store you get a chance to see which are brighter..

I got the sd870is. This P&S is very quick. For landscape shots the wide angle makes a big difference in the shot!.

Thanks for all the feedback...
