Help me choose a camera
I need a camera to take gardening and horse pictures, so I need to be able to take good close-up, landscape, and action pictures. I want the capacity to take rapid advance shots. I've been told that for the action shots I'll want a SLR camera. Suggestions that won't break the bank?.

Thank you...

How deep is the bank?Definitely you will want a dslr, especially if you are wanting rapid shot mode..

If you have no slr with any lens collection at this time then you have a ton of choices. I have currently have Nikon, because I have several good lens's and expensive flash for it I will not switch brands..

Suggestions to look into would be the very nice Nikon D40 (Nikon kit lens's are very good, but you will want another one for zoom. You would get the 18-55 kit which in digi speak would equate to a 28-80 or so in 35mm land. I would suggest also their very nice and well priced 55-200VR, it's a decent lens and will not break the bank) The draw back to the D40 is that it has no internal lens motor and you are limited on the lens available, but if you do not already have any, it's not a big deal..

2nd. Olympus E510 twin lens kit. Very well priced, the glass is good and it would take you from 18-300 roughly, has a built in sensor cleaner and the twin lens kit is very well priced..

3rd the Pentax K100D. I am not as impressed with it's kit lens, however there are other options. This camera is well built, uses a multitude of Pentax and other brand K mount len's and does a very good job..

Any three of these entry level dslr's would do a great job, and are very well priced..

Also, the Canon Rebel XT is going for an amazing price these days, and the XTI it's successor is well priced as well. However I have heard many say the older is perhaps a better cam, others I am sure feel the other way. Canon is limited as well to certain lens's, (AF, etc.) but they have a large variety.Do some research on reviews, etc. and have a great time once you get one!.

Here is a link to Sony Style that gives you information on the new A200 DSLR camera. The camera can be ordered through Sony's website. There is a lot of information about the camera on the Sonystyle website. You can also go to the Sony SLR Talk on the discussion forums on this website for additional comments..

I hope you consider the Sony product. It does not have the same cache as a Canon or a Nikon product. But it is targetted to new DSLR users. The camera body plus an 18-70 mm standard zoom lens is $699 (on the Sonystyle website). The Sony Alpha product line is backwardly compatible with Konica Minolta A-Mount cameras and lens. This price does not include memory module.

I am not a Sony employee but I am a Sony consumer..

Yeah and price wise the Oly kits lenses are the highest rated kit lenses and the IN-BODY image stabilization (not available with Nik or Can) means you get this feature with kit lenses and don't have to pay the $$$ to get it in the lenses as with Nik or Can ... why they don't do this is beyond me ....Solar..
