Front lens rotates when zooming
No, actually I've never come across a zoom whose front rotates when zooming, so why do testers mention it, when the answer is always 'no'?..

So, is there any zoom lens out there on which a filter would rotate when zooming?..

Most of the cheaper consumer lenses do this. Step up to the upper end of the consumer range and many (most?) don't...

I know that there are dozens of zooms on which the front element rotates when focusing, but I've yet to see one where zooming will make it turn...

I believe my el-cheapo Pentax FA-J 75-300 rotates when zooming and focusing...

Front element that rotates when the lens focuses is a major problem for those of us who attach filters to the front of the camera lens. If you put a Polarizer on your lens it will have to be circular if the lens is auto focus. You set the Polarizer to react to the conditions you want to change. Activate the focus the lens rotates the effect that you set with the filter has to be adjusted to what it was before the lens was focused. The best type of lens is one that has internal focus. That way the effect you set will be what you take.

If you have a choice do not purchase lens that do this it will drive up the wall. This is a requirement that I have used for the pain it can cause. Especially if you are in a hurry to get the shot before you lose it forever. This effect is the same when zooming or focusing...

I know very well that the front lens on many zooms rotates..

However, the question boils down to: does anybody have a zoom on which the filter rotates when you zoom? (Not focus, but zoom)...

Why do you want to know? Why do you need one?.

Because there's enough confusing 'parameters' as it is, so if there's no such thing as a zoom on which the front lens rotates when zooming, there's one less thing to consider..

It's like having an entry: "Does AF work when there's no battery in the camera?" - "Yes" - "No"..

But knowing my motive for asking is hardly necessary in order to answer..

If there's even one (preferably current) zoom lens on which the front lens does indeed turn when you zoom, then it's relevant, otherwise it's irrelevant "noise"...

But it is highly relevant to one's inclination to bother to answer!.
