First SLR & Photoshop Pic, CC?
First picture I've taken with the new camera combined with attempting to mess with it in photoshop. Let me know how far off I am! .

400Dxti ISO 200 F5.6 1/80s 85mm.

It was indoors, bad light, so I'm sure it's not good. Just not sure what to look for in photoshop. All CC gladly accepted!.

I hope you don't mind but I did some pp on the image you posted. All I did was crop the image down, increase exposure and played with the highlights and shadows. I think you will see the difference. I think you could have gotten the same effect initially if you had used a flash to fill in because of the bright window in the back. I did most of the PP in Lightroom and Photoshop..

Wow! Thanks so much! I thought about cropping, but the exposure and other shadows stuff really made a difference! I have a 580ex II and used it to bounce light off the ceiling, which probably wasn't the way to go here, as the color was muted. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the help!..

Not bad. You can also use Digital Photo Professional which came with the camera to process the RAW file. Increase the sharpness and set luminance noise reduction to high. You need to upgrade to the latest version to get the noise reduction, here is the instruction to download the patch:http://www.photo96.com/blog/?p=367You can also play around with the picture style.YongboPhoto Gallery: http://www.photo96.com/Blog: http://www.photo96.com/blog/index.php.

I did purchase the Kodak Digital Gem Professional which was supposed to help with noise reduction. Is the one you're speaking of better? I basically let the filter from Kodak do it's thing without changing the settings. More than happy to get a different noise reduction program if the Kodak isn't good!.

Thanks for your help! I know it's not the best by any means, but everyone has to start somewhere. When it finally stops raining and I could see the sun, I can't wait to see what I can do outdoors with decent light..

Again, you have no idea how much I appreciate the help. This is turning in to something that could seriously be a passion!..

You can also try bounce the flash to the side wall (pull out the diffuser as well), and don't hesitate to use ISO-400. I bought few books and read a lot in Barnes and Noble during lunch break. The New Manual of Photography by John Hedgecoe is the best book for beginners, for me, it's a shortcut..

Cute boy you have, 1st off the WB and Exposure was off and this can be hard to fix sometimes.I was bored so I played around with the images.

I like the 2nd one the best IMO it takes it from a snapshot to something I would print. but then I really enjoy B&W.

Once you learn photoshop you can do a lot, these were some very easy things to do takes all of 5 minutes.

Sparky_caI have a photographic memory, but I always seem to have the lens cap on. Current Camera Canon 30D..

Simple aproach for simple photo - Picassa, nothing fancy. Love the snap, though.

Cheers.

Since you specifically mentioned Photoshop in you post I assume that you have the software. If you are just learning I suggest that you get a copy of Adobe's PhotoshopClassroom in a Book. It does a really good job of providing a great foundation for using the software. It also is actually fun to do some of the lessons and see the results on your pics..

Good luck. I have a feeling your going to be taking lots of shots of the little guy!!.
