Fill Flash Question (3 images)
I am so proud. I figured out how to embed my pics! I love the site..

So to improve my casual photo skills, the pics story and my newb question for discussion, and C & C, is:.

I was just having fun at Christmas with my nephews, and I didn't use my flash for these pics, which I really, really like and wish I had. .

I have a Canon 300D, was using the kit lens 18-55mm and fully auto function in late afternoon sun..

If I had used my fill flash (430ex), what settings would you suggest to only light their faces clearly? I printed a couple of these through Shutterfly, and they came out really dark in the shadow areas on their faces..

All comments appreciated..

The little guy surprised me with how natural he was in the picture (he is only 3)..

The 430ex isnt particularly a fill flash, but you can use it for fill. There again, there is nothing to stop you fro using the pop-up flash for fill either..

With the Canon EOS system, Av is an automatic fill flash mode. Set the aperture for whatever DoF you want, the camera sets the shutter speed for the correct ambient light exposure and the flash will fill in automatically..

I hope you don't mind me tinkering with your photos. Maybe these are a little better. Cute boys..

Carla,.

I don't remember the exact set up for fill on your model but typically the fill should be about - 0.5 EV or so from the ambient exposure (it's pretty subjective and like salt, use it "to taste")..

If the settings are like most of the Canon's I have owned, your just dial it in from the flash exposure compensation setting and control dial/Van..
