One essential program is PTlens. It's not free, but only $15. Get it! It's both an addin and a stand alone program..

NoiseNinja is good, but there are two others you should try before you pick a NR program: NeatImage and NoiseWare..

Frankly I think you should have Faststone http://www.faststone.org/Just because you really don't need Photoshop for a lot of things..

Noise Ninja or Neat Image are handy. The differences are in the interface either does a bang up job on the noise..

Focus Magic http://www.focusmagic.com/ Is a nice one and you can evaluate it and decide if it's useful for you. I use it all the time..

If you're a landscape photographer (cityscapes as well) You can stitch in Photoshop but PTgui http://www.ptgui.com/ will do a better job unless you're a master of Photoshop. There are a lot of these Panostitching programs out there and everyone has a favorite this one just happens to be mine.A member of the rabble in good standing..

It's a photoshop plugin and corrects lens distortions. In Photoshop elements you can do a simple correction for barrel or pincushion distortion, which is OK. But PT lens has a database of the measured complex distortions of many different lenses, so if you know what lens your picture was taken with, and the focal length (which is in the EXIF) it will automatically correct for any distortion exactly for that particular lens. Good value at $15 if you use modestly-priced zooms which are prone to distortions..

Best wishesMike..

I would suggest that you obtain some form of data recovery software to have on hand in case of card corruption, which will happen at some time..

I use PC inspector which is free, it has worked for me in anger and I have used it for other peoples cards as well..

Noise Ninja DOES work wonders! It's one program that I consider a staple (an alternative would be Noiseware, which is superb too, but I prefer Noise Ninja a bit more)..

Other plugins I really think are essential are something for resizing (AlienSkin BlowUp or OnOne's Genuine Fractals), and if you're into presets, a preset suite (like Nik Color Efex or OnOne's package, can't remember the name though). If you like the look of film, then you're totally in luck and there will always be something for you - AlienSkin Exposure 2, DxO Filmpack, or even Nik Color Efex 3.0 will work...

This is essential and there are a number of different backup programs and approaches. You can check the PC Talk or Mac Talk forums for threads..
