Entry dSLR's - are any of them weather-sealed.
I was reading about the Olympus E3 (NOT an entry level dSLR) and that it is weather-sealed..

I have read about the D40x, E510, Sony 300, and new Rebel... but don't recall (and can't find) any reference to weather-sealing. Is there any on these cameras? On any of the other entry-level dSLRs?.

Thanks..

Have a look at the Pentax K10d and K200d. The K10d is the "old" model that's being phased out, but still available. The K200d is the new entry level model. The K200d and the K10d are similar on the inside and both are weather sealed. The K200d is smaller than the K10d. I feel the outgoing K10d is a better value..

Somewhere on YouTube is a a video of a K10d and lens under a running water faucet and then the camera takes photographs..

So, that's the only entry model with the weather sealing?.

There might be other entry level camera's with weather sealing, I don't know for certain. I do think weather sealing is usually reserved for higher end camera's, Pentax being an exception...

The K10D was not an entry-level camera...it's just priced like one (now)..

Yes, the K10d was the previous high end model from Pentax...

Don't forget you'll need weather sealed lenses to go along with your weather sealed body. By definition, an entry level DSLR won't be weather sealed - at least that's how the current market defines it..

Weather sealed bodies (if I forgot any, please add to the list)E-1E-3K10DK20DD200D3001D...D2...D3.

The E-1 and K10D can be had at very reasonable prices. Not sure about pentax, but you can also find very reasonably priced weather sealed lenses to match up to the E-1..

The Sigma DS-14 offers two forms of weather sealing:.

1: sealing rubber ring around the lens base..

2: Dust protector that also keeps the environment out of the camera while changing lenses (no other maker offers this, I guess they expect once you get out in the rain or dust you'll never want to change a lens)..

In practical use, I've shot in rain and heavy dust/sand storms without ill effect. Other options are to buy a simple plastic jacket and keep your camera covered a bit when it rains..

Most entry level cameras won't have weather-sealing since it increases the price and entry-level models are usually cost-conscience. Full sealing is reserved for "pro" cameras, although lower models will usually have some weather sealing. Like others mentioned, Pentax is the exception..

Unless you really are working in a demanding environment, you may not need it. If you ever want to go underwater, get an underwater house/enclosing, and if dust is a problem, a blower should be able to help...

A stupid idea, but how about taping your camera with scotch tape? around USB hole, battery and card slot, all around the LCD etc. might protect from a little rain and snow...

Yes the Pentax has a good weather seal. The balance of the named cameras do not have this as an option. You have to go to the professonal versions to get that luxury. The k10, k20 and k200 are all weather sealed. But only some of the lens are. so check the web site to find out more. Or obtain a weather device to enclose the camera and the lens...
