Dust
Just finding my way around my new D40 and I've taken an initial dust shot (only my 249th shot) and was surprised to see quite a bit (or am I being fussy?). At least, I assume it's dust I'm seeing? All I've done is unbox the camera and carefully and quickly attached the lens. I'm not overly concerned as I hadn't noticed it in any pics (although I can see it in a few skies now if I look really hard) but I'm wandering if I should give it a puff? If this is dust, is it likely to becomes harder to remove over time?.

Any advice?.

I would clean the sensor only if dust shows up in normal shooting conditions and looks distracting..

If the cleaning is not done thoroughly enough one can introduce more dust..

In general the dust shouldn't stick to the sensor harder over time; so if you decide to clean it in 2 months it should still be as easy or hard to get off as it is now..

Have a nice day..

Is that an image of the sensor, or the eye level screen?..

I took a shot of a white sheet of A4 taken at f/22.0 and then whacked the contrast up in Picasa..

I think that's how to reveal the dust on the sensor. Have I done the right thing?..

I've never had to do this (I have an Oly with a dust removal sytem) so I can't say how good the info is..

If it isn't showing in your pictures it's probably not worth worrying about..
