Any suggestions for dealing with the EXTREME dry mouth I have since starting this program? Other than chewing gum (I have a jaw issue and gum chewing is not good for me)..

And my unrelated vent is that I am irritated that I lost 4 pounds week 1 while I see other folks (starting around the same weight) losing 10 pounds and more. Now, I am happy for those people, but I am ticked that I can't be in their club I mean, I have lost 4 lbs the first week on WW before, and on that plan there is lots of "real food" so I guess I just feel a bit cheated. And before you ask, yes, I was 100% OP and did drink my water. I'm still committed to working the program for at least the 28 days for which I have food, but I'm disappointed- meh...

Drink more water. AND any loss is a success so celebrate that...

I have Sjogren's which means chronic dry mouth. There are saliva substitutes out there but they are horrid. Honestly I just carry water with me all the time. I just take a small sip, hold it in my mouth a little roll around and swallow. That said, it is also one of the possible side effects from ketosis, and Medifast puts us in a mild state of ketosis. Yes my condition was worse when I was on 5&1, but it was manageable with just water.

As for losses... don't feel bad, look at mine. You're doing just fine and you're right in where you should be on this plan. Don't worry. If you follow the plan it will work. Make sure you take measurements.

Good luck!..

Sounds like you should find out what's causing your dry mouth. It could be something completely unrelated to MF. I have issues because the last radiation treatment I had damaged my salivary glads and caused severe scarring..

As for the weight loss - I lost 6 lbs my first week, 5 the second and from there on out it was an average of 2 lbs per MONTH. You don't say how much you have to lose so it's hard to make any knowledgeable comments. One mistake that newbies have is shorting their L&G. Are you weighing both your protein (after cooking) and your veggies (In the state you will eat them-cooked or raw)? Are you logging in all condiments you use?..

I lost less than 4lbs my first week. I stayed on plan and had an average of 2 lbs/week. Then, at week 10, I had my best week ever at over 4 lbs. So, all I can say is to stay on plan and the results will come. I did take the advice of some of the veterans and not put a time limit on my goal. I committed for the long haul...

I think you will find far fewer folks lose those extreme numbers. Keep in mind the folks that lose 9, 10 or 15 pounds are more likely to scream it from the rooftop than those of us that lost more moderate numbers in the first week and every week after. That said I have averaged 10 pounds per month each month..

I feel you on the dry mouth. Mine is not severe or uncomfortable but always there. Even drinking water doesn't really help. If you are feeling like you have an extreme case then you should consult your doctor to rule anything out...

First, I hope this makes you feel a little better...based on the amount of weight you want to lose, you lost about 8% of your goal. I lost about 8% of my goal in the first few days. Those of us who are larger had more fluid built up, I assume. I had a lot of water weight. I commend you for starting now before you had as much weight to lose as I do. So, while you may wish you had lost more, you did relatively the same percentage, based on the amount you want to lose. Yay for you!.

Dry mouth...I have it, too! Not related to MF. I use two products and not the gum...Oasis Mouth Rinse is like a minty lotion for the mouth. It's not as harsh as regular mouth wash and leaves the mouth feeling great! Also, if you still have a problem after that, which I tend to add if I'm taking decongestants that dry me further, they have a sugar free spray that you can spray in your mouth a few times during the day. These help me a lot. I hope this helps! Good luck...

Thanks everybody for the support and ideas. I just really wanted to be in the "cool kids who lost big" club- silly, I know..

Dry mouth was a transient side effect of my anti-depressant, so it's a familiar foe (but luckily only lasted a couple of weeks. I'll try the mouth rinses and stuff. It's just annoying (and also not good for oral health)...
