A friend of mine at work gave me some left over medifast today. She had said that they had expired but she wondered if they were still okay to consume (dated 2007) She told me to take them and use them if I felt it was okay..

The interesting thing is that some are things I have never tried (I'm fussy) so it is a good chance to try something new. It is also a great deal as I am hoping to be on the diet for a 1-2 month period - so this would be just enough with the current supply I have to make it that amount of time without a big re-order..

Anyone know how long the products actually last? Will I be lacking vitamins that may have degraded - or should it be okay if they taste okay?.

I haven't opened the packages yet so I don't know how they taste or smell - may answer my own question by opening the packs.<.

Each product does have an expiration date listed on the envelope. Medifast powdered products have an 18-month best-if-used-by date. Medifast Ready-to-Drink Shakes and Bars have a 12-month best-if-used-by date. This does not mean that the product will expire, "go bad" or be harmful; it simply means that the vitamin and mineral pre-mix contained in the products may lose some of it's potency, potentially rendering the product less effective. For best results, use your Medifast Meals as soon as possible and store them in a cool, dry, clean environment..

I have a Chocolate Bar that lists the following numbers:.

1297 N4A0508.

There is no EXP followed by numbers like the shakes..

Is the use by 05/08? I just want to make sure I'm looking at the right date?.

Actually, one of my shake packets says EXP01240? On some of them it looks like 03, some 08, some 09. I hope it's 09..

I've had some of the exp 07 stuff- they were ok- just needed more mixing.

I just used up some Medifast meals that had a 2007 expiration date. They tasted the same. As expensive as these packets are I didn't want to waste them. I never got sick from them. You could try asking Nutrisystem if they can figure out the expiration date..

Crap!.

So I just got some Dutch Chocolate Ready to Drink Shakes and I realized that they are expiring June 22! I need them for a road trip I'm going on the 29th...do you think they'll last a week or two past the date?! I sure hope so!!!!.

Let me know what you think/have learned in your experience!!.

Wow - that seems strange that they would exprire so soon after you just got them. Are you sure it is 2010? I don't drink the rtd shakes so I'm sorry I don't know. Someone else will know the answer. ~Kim.

Are you sure that they expire this year? Did you get them from Medifast or TSFL? I have ordered many RTD shakes and they are always good for about 1 yr. Re-check the year and also call Medifast or TSFL with the lot number if you cant determine the year..

Food never used to have expiration dates. There's nothing magical about the date. Your food will not suddenly go inedible after that date.

FWIW, I'm an RN and we even learned the most medicines do NOT expire when they say they do. They did testing on some antibiotics some 40 years after they were produced for World War 1 and they were still shown to be potent!.

It's just a CYA on the part of Medifast, I'm sure..

Can Medifast Meals be consumed after the best-if-used-by date?.

Medifast powdered products have an 18-month best-if-used-by date. Medifast Ready-to-Drink Shakes and Bars have a 12-month best-if-used-by date.
