Do actual Camera Stores still exist today (in CT area)?
For the past month or so, I have been shopping for a P&S to replace/upgrade from my 6+ year old Nikon Coolpix 4500. Ive been doing all the "normal research": reading professional reviews, visiting several web-site forums to listen to discussions and get actual /img/avatar8.jpg/user opinions, etc. (Right now, I am thrashing among the Canon SD890, Fuji F100fd, Panasonic TZ5, and Panasonic FX500 depending on the day of the week, I am in love with a different one for different reasons on any given day)..

But, what I find missing is the ability to actual touch/feel each in comparison to each other. There are the usual chain stores Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. but their selection is usually less current and almost impossible to get used to the look/feel of what cameras they do happen to have (none seem to be willing to disconnect the security chain to let you try them in your actual pocket)..

So, here's my question: do true Camera Stores still exist today? I live in the Danbury, CT are and I cannot find one. I know I could travel into NYC to B&H, but that is a trek I would rather ignore..

Any suggestions from anyone here local to the CT area?..

Try Ritz, at least for touching/feeling cameras. Not that I would buy it there ..

The selection at Ritz is the worst I have ever seen...no current models whatsoever...

OOPS - sorry about that. I was only suggesting it as another possible option. Like I said, not that I would buy there (ever!)...

I can't answer for CT, but in Syracuse, NY there is one "real" camera store (MQ Camera) with owners that actually know about the products they sell & are willing to spend time determining your needs & matching them to a camera, point & shoot or DSLR. What's more, their prices match those of the big box stores. Probably not worth the trip to Syracuse from CT, but if you do a search for a reasonably large city & a name brand dealer such as Canon or Nikon, you will probably find one. The good ones still seem to exist.http://www.lakeshoreimages.com.

I believe there is a nice camera store in Milford (Milford Camera! I think). I live in Southbury Ct, not too far from you and I really miss Mike's Camera Shop in Watertown. I used them for my film 35mm and could sure use their help with my digital needs now. good luck!..

Pretty stupid statement, if I may add..

Seems you hold a grudge against them for some reason..

They do have good stores.you just have to find them..

Ahh, c'mon. Might be fun. .

I see ads for Camera Wholesalers (Stamford) in the NYTimes periodically.http://www.camerawholesalers.com/.

I've never been there and you now know _all_ I know about them..

Thanks, Henry. I have visited almost all the suggestions made here. I think I am just going to take an afternoon and travel into NYC to visit B&H. They would seem to have the combination of experience/advice and supply choice I am looking for..

Thanks all...
