I did great my first two weeks, then 4th if July hit and I still remained good, it's been since then that I had some major family stress and I turned to food. Will I ever learn? I often wonder that. I got into the no care attitude, why am I even trying to lose weight, ect. I stayed there for 4 days and gained 5 pounds.

The past two days I have picked myself up and been doing better. Not completely OP, but better. I am now down all of that 5 pounds except 1.3. Today I am hoping to be compliant!.

How do you deal with stress? I certainly know that eating is not the answer, but I always tend to go that route...

Hi Sharon,.

Looks like week three brought stress to both of us. I wrote about it some in my blog. Not sure if this link will get you there, but give it a try....

Here's the thing about stress... it happens! I don't know why any of us seem to always be surprised when it hits. The secret is to plan how we are going to deal with it - when we don't have stress. It's a bit hard to plan when you are in the midst of it..

For now... my words of wisdom are... "forgive yourself, learn from it and move on". The more you focus on what you did in the past the longer it will take you to feel good about today and tomorrow. Start anticipating breakthroughs!.

I know you can do this Sharon. Just make sure to get on the Medifast site and share when you need help. There are many of us here ready to be there for you!.

Go Sharon!!!..

Sharon hi girlie!!!.

YOU CAN SO DO THIS! Dont give up! We all have slip up, we all have our days. Dont look back, just look ahead and KNOW that you can do this, you can I know you can!!! I could easily eat 4,000 calories a day without thinking about it and it's hard not to go back to eating the food we used to eat but I look at my two children and I know I want to be here for them and to be a healthy mom. My cholesterol was up to 300, my dad had a quadruple bypass in his early 50's, I want to avoid all of these problems if I can. Its a struggle for me each and everyday but every day I stay OP is one day closer to reaching my goal. Please PM me I am always always here for you sweet Sharon!.

Hugs!.

Lesley..

Sharon:.

Don't worry about the slip ups. You can do this. As time goes on OP, you will develop necessary tools. Once you really start losing the weight, and just having that overall feeling of well-being while eating Medifast foods, you will have the tools to turn off that craving to stress eat. At least that is what has worked for me.

Good luck. You can do this. You are so worth it!!!..

I think it would be a safe bet that most of us on MF, heck, most overweight people, have problems with emotional eating. Food is my drug and I'm an addict. It's the #1 reason I refuse to have the gastric bypass. Sure, the weight will come off, but it won't stay off if I don't get my issues under control..

I slipped on the 4th as well. I was able to get back OP which is huge for me. Every other time I've dieted, one slip up would turn into a few days which turned into gaining everything I lost back plus more and it would be weeks before I thought of trying again..

I think this is a good NSV for you. You came on the boards and "came clean" which you didn't have to do. That shows me you really want this. You can do it. Keep using these boards and get as much support as you can stand. Don't beat yourself up for last week, that's just going to drag you down.

You can't fix it. But you can fix today and tomorrow and the day after that. Each and every time you overcome a struggle will make you stronger. That includes the occassion screw up. We are human (I hate to admit it, but there it is...) and it's going to happen.

You have the desire to make this happen otherwise you wouldn't be here. You can do this. You can do this!!!..

Sharon, Don't give up. You can do this. The past is the past. Yesterday is gone. Focus on today, on now. You can do this.

Just one day at a time or one meal at a time. We are here to support you. Don't give up. Maybe it's time to make some recipes of things you really like. I love buffalo wings, chicken etc.

Just a little hot sauce and my white chicken breast cut up. It's delicious. Just a little inovation and you won't feel deprived. Hang in there. Don't give up.

Just keep trudging the diet road. Best of Luck!..

Hi Sharon.

Something that I noticed, after about a thousand years, is that my montly cycle has a LOT to do with how I handle, or not, the various stressful situations in my life. Now, I don't mean PMS, because we all KNOW what that does. lol What I didn't realize is that mid-month during ovulation, I would become extremely depressed/removed/moody and would also tend to eat and eat. It wasn't until I began tracking my monthly cycles that I became aware that that was happening over and over and over. Something you might want to look into. It's been amazingly helpful for me to realize this and helps me to look at stressful situations differently.

So glad you're getting back on track!..

Hi Sharon,.

If you will take a tip from an 'old lady' that is old enough to be your GM..

I have found it very helpful to make out your list of Advantages to lose Weight. Make copies.

Post one on the cabinet in your kitchen where you can read it first thing in the morning, your computer, at work, tape it to your desk..

It keeps the ' GOAL' in my mind all day. This really helps me to stay OP..

Thank you all so much for your encouragement. Yesterday and today I have been OP, the scale is still my enemy, but I will live...

Think about it afterwards and why you were stressed and turned to food. Figure out a different coping mechanism and try it next time you feel that way..

I think a big part of this is re-structuring old habits and you can't do that if you don't think about them...

Hi there, I too struggle with emotional eating. I think it is very common. The biggest thing for me is to pick myself up and keep going. This isn't a diet, it's a journey, and each meal is a new adventure, whether it's a packet of Medifast soup, or my L&G..

I read something interesting on the web this week. They said that if emotional eaters are thinking of eating something due to emotions, it can help if you look right at the food (like for example a cookie) and say to yourself, in your head, "Eating that cookie will not make me feel any better." Whether or not you give in, just try it. Actually I tried it at work with big bakery cookies and I felt the urge diminish. And I didn't eat it!.

Also, even though I am stuck partway through the book, I recommend the Beck book (Judith Beck is the author)... combined with Medifast it's a very helpful thing!.

Best of luck to you!!..

I am glad I read this thread this afternoon..it is just what I needed to hear today! Thanks!..

Deb you made a very powerful statement- emotional eating is why you didnt have bypass surgery. I which other people would realize that bypass surgery doesn't cure the problem, it does give you a start but if you dont have help with the problem to begin then you can regain it.

Sharon- try mini goals. Sometimes it's easier to just try goals that don't involve lbs. For example try some mini goals like "I stayed op for 21 days"..
