Date on prints
Can anyone suggest a compact digital camera, not too expensive, that puts the date on to prints...

I cant answer your specific question (I assume you want the date actually written over the image), but you could check for the date of your pictures in the EXIF data of each shot?..

You don't need to have the camera do this. Go get irfanview software (free) and you can have whatever caption you want, in any font/color/size, anywhere on your image. It's part of the advanced options in the batch conversion function (under the file menu)..

Almost all the digital cameras $100 and up will imprint the date/time on the photo. Downside is you'll PhotoShop (or equal) to get it out of there...

Not true - many don't. But it is easy enough to print the EXIF date on the photo with freeware like Irfanview and you then also have a copy without the clutter of a date on the image...

Thanks for the info, but I have to be able to put the date on the print directly, without using a PC. Film cameras could do this using a special back...

Looking at a Panasonic DMC-LZ manual, the date is in the print function. Apparently, if you use a PictBridge printer or have the pictures printed at a shop, you can tell it to print the date. I suspect this is common, as this is a rather generic camera..

Sorry, I should have said tht I need to print from In Store Kiosks rather than from a home printer..

Since the date is embedded within the file, it should be simple for a kiosk to pull that info from the file and print it on the photo. That said, simply look for a kiosk offering this option..

Look at this software:.

TimeToPhoto automatically reads the date of the original picture from EXIF and places the datestamp on your photo..

Actually.just the opposite!.

I work in a camera store and sell these things every day, and I can tell you that very few P&S cameras imprint the date on the photos in-camera..

Most of the newer Nikon Coolpix cameras imprint the date, some of the Casio's, and most of the Kodak EasyShare cameras do..

Canon PowerShot's do, but only in 'Postcard' mode, which is really low rez (ie.- barely capable of a 4x6 print)..

A couple of Pentax Optio's do, too..

There are a couple more.but I haven't had enough coffee yet this morning to fire up my internal RAM to remember which ones they are!.

The biggest problem with imprinting the date on the image in the camera is that it will forever be on that photo..

We get people all the time at our photo lab wanting us to remove the date from their photos..

I usually tell them, "Sure.bring your camera in and I'll turn that feature off for you!".

That info is always stored with the photo file, and all photo software has a 'text' function so you can put it there if you need to..
