Damaged CCD?
1. Does anyone have an example of a photo from a damaged CCD? I performed a cleaning of my CCD and now I have even more dust on my photos. When I look at the CCD I dont see anything but they are definitely in the photos. About 10-20 perfect halos of various tone levels. They show up most in my sunrise shots..

2. Has anyone had to have a CCD repaired for a Canon DSLR? If so, was it expensive? What was the experience like?.

Thanks in advance,Any experience feedback would be appreciated...

Sensor dust appears on the photos as dark, fuzzy objects that are generally small in size. They're seen against a light background, such as the sky, at small aperture settings (e.g. ~ F16 and smaller)..

Perfect halos of various tones does not sound like dust on the sensor. It would be helpful if you post a photo and the settings used..

Sounds far more like you have performed a wet clean and left some marks. That is quite common especially if you are new to it..

Post a picture or two and you might get more help..

... and that occurs if you have broad areas of gradient density: you can get an odd banding. I've seen it in sunsets/rises and moon shots, along with landscapes with clear blue sky..

The cure is to shoot in RAW and process as 16-bit files; when downsampled to 8-bit the banding usually doesn't show up.KP.

Here is an example of what I am seeing. This is a 1.8MB file.

This was taken early morning and as the sun rose the spots became less and less noticable in my photos..

ISO 100, 92mm, 1/15 sec at f22.

Again, thanks for the assistance...

You have about 20 dust bunnies that I can clearly see on this photo. You need to clean your sensor..

Take some photos at f/16 of a clear blue sky for reference purposes then..

Use a blower on the sensor.

Take and examine another reference photo.

If necessary do a wet clean..

Take another reference photo. etc etc..

P.S. You should not paste such a large file directly into a thread. Put a semi colon after the link so that we can click on it e.g..

(You can only see the semi-colon if you click on "Quote" then back out to avoid leaving a blank post).

That's dust on the sensor. I don't know how you cleaned it before, but it doesn't look very effective. I suggest you blow the sensor off first, use a hand squeeze blower. You can check after blowing, but you'll probably still have too much dust and you'll need to do a wet cleaning..

I don't know what a sensor replacement costs right now, but I sent a customer's Canon 20D in for sensor replacement a couple of years ago..

Cost $600 then..

He used canned air on it (after I told him not to) and got that white freeze stuff all over the sensor and it wouldn't come off..

Are you suggesting that the OP needs to replace his sensor? If so why? If not what is the point of your post?.

Have you looked at the image he posted? If not why not before you scare the OP whitless?!Chris Elliott.

Please go back and reread question #2 in the original post..

He asked if sensor repair (actually, they don't repair them, they replace them) is expensive, so I told him!.
