Phil Askey od DPreview.com has a great review as well as a comparison between the D70, D100, dRebel.
Look here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond70/page20.asp As for build quality, both are built well. I have the D100, I have not noticed any noise issues and know how to deal with the softness it's detractors are so fond of bringing up. As far as I know, the D70 uses the same sensor as the D100. The D70 has a few features that I wish the D100 had (1/500 sec flash sync, 1005 segment meter, etc). But then the D100 has a few perks of it's own (Standard Cable release, MB-D100, ISO 3200 & 6400). Its a toss up anymore.
And maybe not even then...
Joe- Glad to see your comments. I recently recieved the Nikon 5700 as a b-day gift from my Husband. I was more interested in a true dSLR so he returned it and bought the D100. It seems just what I was looking for - however I have been doing a lot of reading (before opening the box) on the differences between the D70 and D100. There seems to be quite a difference in price and yet I am unable to really see significant differences between the two. If you could choose - which would it be? Thanks for your help! LK..
I was just in NM shoting when my d70 fell of the clif and landed about 500 ft. below me I got a few scraps on the body but everything else was fine and is still shotting great. also that little lcd cover is worth it wieght in gold..
I waited for the D70 to get into digital.I purchased one in June of 04.I started to shoot in the auto mode, and to my suprise the prints were all under I exposed. My first thought was the built in flash was the problem.I shot some outside, same results ,under exposed.I adjusted to exposure compensation and had to use +1.0 for decent print.I went back to the dealer and shot more photos in the shop with the same results.Had to Exp.Comp.for inside/outside shots.I was told by the shop that this camera is a pro camera type and all photos had to be mannipulated.I dont think so.So I will continue to use my F100...
Hi nic! did you just say 500ft off a cliff?! mine fell just 3 ft off the ground and I really had problems sleeping that night. I have a separate thread asking this but i'll ask it anyway. after the fall, I noticed that when I shake the camera up and down there is a faint rattling sound coming from inside. I never really noticed if the rattle was there before the accident. is this normal or did I damage anything from the inside? thanks!..
I have the D100, and really like it. The D70 fixes several problems that really bug on the D100. The D100 has a very small buffer (the buffer is used to store image data until written to the card) and writes slowly too. If you use RAW and fill the buffer it will take almost 3 minutes for it to clear the buffer and you cannot take any photos during that time. Well you can, the camera will tell you when enough space is available to shoot one frame, then you wait again. So for the reason above I would go for the D70.
They have the same problem with the buffer on the D100 that I do, but say that the D70 does not have that problem. And finally, the D100 on occasion seems to have a shutter lag, and the D70 does not have any lag.
That's my 2 cents...
D100 & D70 which one is better for business use... please help me... I need it ASAP..
