compact cameras without movies
I am not a photograher. I just enjoy photos. I would be interested in a point and shoot pocket camera with at least some zoom capeability, able to capture useable action shots. I have NO interest in taking movies with my still camera..

Is there no market for a pocket camera without a movie option, and perhaps more effort invested in better quality sports photography? Would the elimination of the movie mode allow room for a larger sensor or longer zoom? Am I the only person with a digital camera with no interest in movies?.

Perhaps, but then I took my camera to a wedding and got videos of dance moves that will be remembered for a long time.

They seem to be few and far between. Somebody was looking for one without video recently and had a bit of a difficult time finding one. This is the thread if you're interested:.

A photographer is someone who takes photos. You may not be a pro or a serious fanatic but you are a photographer..

Maybe..

No. Elmination of movie mode may be impossible to carry out because I would guess most of the processing chips in the cameras, regardless of brand, already have those facilities. It is built into the chip and the electronics "for free" - it is not As far as I know an added cost to the manufacturer..

Adding a larger sensor is extra cost and it also means you need to fit a larger and more expensive lens..

Faster response to trigger, focussing and capturing still action shots requires even more engineering and mechanisms..

The key word here being option - means you don't have to use the movie feature if you don't want. No, not putting in video won't allow room for a larger sensor or longer zoom - video on a digicam is primarily software, there's no hardware involved..

One thing though, don't buy a model that purposely makes video a feature. In this model, the maker has purposely gone out to bias design to that feature - lenses, electronics, mechanisms - so may have sacrificed stills quality.
