Changing Username
Is there a way to change your user name? Thanks...

From what I know, nope..

You need to register again with your new name..

I second this request...after dpreview had the server issues, they somehow changed my username to "Jim S Jordan" which is NOT my name! When I emailed them they said to re-register but I need to use the same email so when I re-registered it came up with the same profile/name, etc...HELP!!!! I do NOT want to be "Jim S Jordan"!!!!!.

I had the same problem. Registered as WayfarerHere. I am in no way "blinkjona" ..

I tried re-registering, but because I used the same e-mail, it brought me back to this. And other than freebies (which, if I understand correctly, you can't use), I don't have another e-mail address. I know it says that once you register with a name, you can't change it, but obviously *something* has changed....

It's a free forum, a free service, and I understand that I could just live with it. And might have to. But silly as it may seem, it still takes a good bit of the enjoyment out of things for me. Not sure that there's anything else to be done, though...

Ditto!.

I've had the same experience. I registered just prior to the crash.Wonder how many of us were caught like that?.

(This isn't the real me - honest! But I've run out of e-mail addresses.).

Could we have a "do-over"?.

Please...

I just sent ANOTHER email through "feedback" asking them to fix it...likely won't but it's worth a third try!Check out my photos: http://myrtleart.smugmug.com.

Might this work:.

Change your existing user name to a different email address then re-register with your proper email address?.

You would have to change the existing user name to proper email address but surely it does not have to be yours. Could be your wife's, a friend's or whatever. as long as all this is done with permisssion there should not be a problem..

Might be wise to wait 24 hours or something like that bewteen steps above..

That might work if they allowed you to change your "recorded for security purposes" email address! GRRR!!! You can change the email they "contact" you through but not the email you log in with...what kind of madness is this? AHHH!Check out my photos: http://myrtleart.smugmug.com.

I think Jim S. Jordan suits you very well. D'ya think you could get used to it, you know, given time? Regards,Baz..

Here's why I originally asked..

I setup a new email and had never used it on here before. I then proceeded to logout and unchecked the remember my password and everything. Then I proceeded to register as a new user with my new email..

Well, when I received my PW in my new email account and signed on, lo and behold, it gave me my old username back. FRUSTRATING. Oh well..

Thanks for all the feedback. Looks like we are all stuck..

I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!! I thought I had been hacked or something, and couldn't figure out WHY somebody would want to hack this account lol..

BTW, I'm Jenn, not Edd ..

Hehehe. It's almost like a club..

I can almost see a signature: WayfarerHere,Member of the Order of the Name-Scrambled.

I suppose even this could be made fun, after all.  .

Edit: okay, felt I just had to follow the whim.   Now here's hoping it shows up.....

Try deleting the cookies in your browser for DPR and then register again. I did this a couple of days ago and it worked..

Originally WingsGirlC19 - aka Jim S Jordan.

Yeah.. I rather suspected you were a female feminine-type kinda... DAME!.

Which was the real reason for my attempt at humour .... which, in it's turn, I hope did not cause you any real offence..

So, errrm... "Jim"... I mean, "WingsGirlC19".... What do you like to be called, when you are amongst friends.... [??] Regards,Baz..

Well Jimette I suppose you could at least explain the sorry tale in your Profile or add something humerous as part of your signature..

How about using the email of a close relation as a starting point to reregister and do it on their PC then clear your cookies on your own machine before logging on again using the new details. It is a very long time ago that I registered but I imagine that you wil have to confirm your identity via the new email address and so need to do these things when visiting the person whose email address you have borrowed..

I am also a member of the changed name club..

I went from PatS to BlackJoiner???? I wonder what BlackJoiner ended up with..

I can't find anywhere to just unsubscribe (unregister) and just start over...

Or talk to them on the phone at the very least..

Very weird problem...

Well, if you set it up on your machine, it's still the same ip number?.

It should work if done on a different machine..

Although, even on the same machine, you and spouse could both have accounts with the same IP #, I suppose, although maybe the server wouldn't still recognize that..

I can hear the chewing of a few still alive bugs in the machinery...

I think you have to change your IP address..

I had the same problem. I had a second email address with my ISP. I tried to register a new user name using the second email address. It didn't work. Keep getting error messages (invalid login, and others). Then I wasn't able to login with my original user name either! Sent the site administrator emails asking for help, but got no reply..

Because I had 2 email address with the same ISP, both addresses use the same IP address. Since this site recognizes both my emails as having the same IP address, it rejected my attempt at forming a second username. A lot of web sites do this, in order to stop spamming (one person creating multiple usernames)..

I wasn't able to register and login until I changed ISPs from earthlink to ATT...

Haha. I guess I should come up with something clever for my signature - ummm...that might take a while .

Ashley is fine...or WingsgirlC19...or even Jim...it's starting to somewhat grow on me!.

Maybe I'll sign off as:"Jim S Jordan - the photographer formerly known as WingsgirlC19...".

See. Told you so... .

Good idea.... (although I really hope this technical hitch is sorted out for those that are suffereing from it.).

Thank you, Ashlley, for your good temper........ but somehow you'll always be 'Jim' for me...  Best Regards to You,Baz..

Finally, Finally, Finally - after many tries.

I got rid of the user name that had been erroneously assigned to me after the crash..

I removed all the cookies. There is one that starts with DP review and one that starts with forumsDPreview.

I had been trying to put back in my original user name. (PatS45) This did not work, it kept bringing up the changed one. I tried many combinations of my name and they were all used (probably by me in my efforts to fix this) I had to start with something totally new (okay it is my golden retriever's name but better than the one I was assigned) and it finally worked..

Still the same ISP. I had thought that was the problem but apparently not. It may be that they just have it fixed now..

I disliked the other name so much I had quit posting..

Whew.... Pat..
