Canon Rebel Question, please help
1. When I put on "P", camera gave me Aperture 4.5 with Shutter speed 60, no flash, camera indicated it is the correct exposure..

2. When I put on "M", set Aperture 4.5, set Shutter speed 60, still not using flash, but this time camera indicated it will be under exposure by -2..

I was pointing to the same object, same environment, same ISO, same metering mode, same focal length, nothing changed..

Anyone know why?..

I couldn't find my rebel manual, but grabbed my old 10s (film) manual and couldn't find the data I was looking for, so here goes, anyone feel free to correct me..

I think that when youf camera is in the P mode, you are on evaluative metering, the camera looks at the entire image and selects the exposure..

When you camera is in the M mode, you are using the centre partial metering only, the camera is reading something like the centre 10% of the entire scene on the sensor..

So if there is a large contrast difference between your overall scene and the main subject, you would have a difference you have spoken of, so don't think your metering is broken.Rationally I have no hope, irrationally I believe in miracles.Joni Mitchell..

Thanks for the help..

I was on centre partial metering for both situations, I am sure about that. But the part I am not sure was whether under "P", the camera will change the metering automatically. Will it?..

One thing to consider... sometimes -2 on the exposure IS the correct setting... it depends on the scene you are shooting..
