I bought a Canon S70 on the first day I could get one. I had been looking at the 8mp Pro-sumer cameras, but they all seem so big they may as well be a digital SLR, but they aren't as good as a Digital SLR, so why bother? The S70 though is quite small by comparison. And it has a great balance of features, and quality. I have been looking forward to the Adobe Camera Raw plugin update to supprot the S70. It is here, but it isn't quite what I had hoped for. Has anyone else used the Camera Raw plugin with the S70? It seems to work well, but the white balance is wrong, or at least dramatically different than what the Canon raw processing gives me...
I have the same problem with my S50 and ACR. The image is too pink. Its your case too? Guillermo..
Planning to buy canon s70. Need help selecting the brand and write speed of the CF card. Please help. Thanx!..
If the S70 has the same read/write speed of the S50, faster cards makes no difference, at least in camera. Of course you'll transfer pictures faster to the computer if an external USB2 reader is used. Guillermo..
Has anybody bought and/or tried the TC-DC10 telephoto lens for the S60/S70? I'm thinking of buying one (with the LA-DC10 lens adaptor) whilst in the States at Christmas (much cheaper than here in the UK!), but would like to hear some first-hand accounts to make sure it's worth the money before spending that much extra on an already non-inexpensive camera. Thanks!..
RE: The I-R S70 test "Likewise, the lens also showed a fair bit of softness in the corners of the image, probably about an average amount for a wide-zoom camera, which is to say, a fair bit more than shown by the G6. The S70's lens isn't bad, but it's clear that this is one of the main areas in which the S70 suffers in comparison to the G6.' One must keep in mind the S70 lens goes to 28mm [equivalent] vs the 35mm [equivalent] of the G6. A great 35mm lens is a bummer when you need a good 28mm lens. To me, the S70 lens question would be it's much slower speed at the telephoto setting.....
My question is similar to Simon Bradley !s #5 Is the LA-DC 10 adapter practical and be left on the camera with.
lense cover closed? I want to attach the S70 camera to my telescope.
using adapter (less 2x conv. lense) & extension tube which I already have. Any comments on lense quality ? Can camera with.
Adapter attached still be mounted on a tripod?..
I'm also trying to decide on a Sandisk 1GB Ultra II CompactFlash or a regular Sandisk 1GB for my s70. Did you reach any conclusion, does the card speed matter?..
I've owned an S30 for a few years and want to upgrade to the S70. One thing I find annoying with the S30 is the shutter lag. Is there an improvement with the S70? If so, how much?..

Thanks for the comments - You're right of course, that the S70's lens goes a lot wider than that of the G6, and that'll be the dominant consideration for some users. Regardless of expanded capabilities of a given product though, I have to point out any attendant limitations, so people can decide whether they want to accept the tradeoffs involved or not.
(FWIW though, I do think that the S70 is an excellent camera overall, wouldn't hesitate to buy one for my own use, if I in fact needed a camera in that category.) Dave __ Hope this helps. Forum Admin..
Just bought an s70 last week. I was going to retire my 1.3M Olympus D-460 because it was taking 50sec to write a max resolution pic. I think it got jealous and it is now working fine. I chose the s70 for a few reasons, first is use of my buddy's s40. Without reading any documentation, I was able to do all the basic operations. Second was that I wanted a camera that can be shot manually but still fit in my pocket.
I just found this site, I think it is great!..
I am trying to update the firmware on my S70. I have followed instructions to the point where it says to scroll down the menu and select "update firmware" and then hit the set button.
There is no "update firmware" in my menu. Any thoughts?..
I just did this last night without a hitch. I would guess that you have not succeeded in transferring the firmware to the FC? Be sure you use a blank FC, because you will lose any other data on the card. Also, beware that this process takes a bit longer than you might expect, once you commit to the upgrade (from the 'update firmware' menu). It takes substantially longer, in fact, than the transfer of the firmware from hard drive to FC in the first place. It took long enough to begin to worry me a bit in fact, but I was not about to try and interrupt the process however. Successful outcome, as I mentioned.
If you have successfully transferred to the FC, the *only* menu item that will be selectable in the Play Menu will be "update firmware". If you don't see that, as you say, then the update is likely not on the card. HTH, Yuki..
Woohoo, I did it. I don't think I was turning the camera off before the rewrite. It worked. I'm now 188.8.131.52. I'm not able to turn the camera on in playback mode however. It was that way before the rewrite as well.
Could there be something wrong with it? Thanks for the help, it was great...
