Dan: Dave writes: __ under test results/color, the second half of the comment was for the Kodak DX7440 not the Canon A85. Ack! Embarassing typo, a paragraph from the 7440 review got tacked on there somehow. Fixed now, *thanks* for the note! - Dave __ Hope this helps. Forum Admin..

I'm looking for a digital camera 6.0 megapixils or higher (not an SLR) that doesn't not have a problem with auto focus. I want to take sports pictures and also some in low light. How is the Cannon Powershot G6. I heard the Powershot Pro is slow with AF...

Canon powershot a85 is just a fine camera. It shoots excelent photo's. Even in darknes and on a low light environment it is working fine. Has many auot and manual settings. I just love this cam!..

I'm deciding between a Canon A75 or A85. Is there a noticable difference in picture quality between the two? I couldn't tell with the review shots...

I've been looking for a digicam for some time now and I'm relatively new to digital photography. This will be my first camera and I want a good camera the first time around so that I wont feel tempted to upgrade once I get better at it. I've been doing some research and Im torn between the A85 and the A80 (Im leaning towards this one). Which one is better? Any comment would be appreciated...

The LCD illumination of my A85 is not very even: It shows two brighter parts close to it's lower border. Is this a construction flaw on all A85s, or should I call for warranty maintenance ?

Thanks for any helpful reply .....

I've it and sometimes you'll have red-eyes but in general it works good. The worse is the LCD...it's bad! Photo quality is amazing and there are a lot of manual options. Really good camera..

I've seen several questions asking about the difference between the A80 and the A85. Please respond. Thanks...

Easy enough: I recommend to go to this site's digital camera comparison chapter which certainly does reply 98% of spec questions or more...

Yes, dear Lynne, please note that all cams with a small distance between the lens axis and the flash projection axis have this problem (not only the canon PowerShot models). If you shoot a lot of photos with flash you have two possibilities:.

(1) Buy a digicam with a Flash Hot Shoe so you can connect a separate flash unit OR.

(2) check for Adobe Photoshop or another Image Editing Software - the results of editing with their "red eye" routine is quite good !.

Best regards...

I'm happy with my recently bought PowerShot A85 and very satisfied by Canon's high customer care. They really ask for feedback ! Excellent value for the money. A nifty no-nonsense all-around camera, very easy to use, but on the other hand offering many additional features the closer you get to it. A device loaded with modern specs at this point of time. Small enough to carry around anywhere, pleasingly lightweight but not too much, thus easy to handle with it's intelligent concept and shape.

About the performance I approve and support in every detail Dave Etchell's camera report.

The AA Size batteries are very practical indeed for autonomy (imagine 4 3600 mAh cells !), and I can not understand the manufacturers why on higher-end digicams they still insist on awkward and hard-to-find proprietary batteries. Nevertheless, some minor issues I'd like to mention:.

O The LCD could still be somewhat larger.

O AS ALREADY POSTED, on my camera the LCD illumination has 2 brighter spots on it's lower edge (meanwhile I found.

out that THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ORIGINAL DESIGN CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS LCD).

O As Dave reports correctly as always, the color balance trends somewhat towards the pink hue.

O Some doubts I have about the camera's sturdiness, temperature resistance and reliability due to it's plastic body.

   parts.

O The connector compartment's covers of rubbery material do not inspire eternal durability.

O I'd like to see Canon bundle a kit of NiMH batteries and a charger (or at least an AC adaptor unit) in the A85's.

original package. By the way, Canon's japanese site offers a very nice and enormous version of the A85's manual with all details. Canon's Image Gateway is another attractive item for people who like to share albums with their friends around the world - a very clever marketing move! A pity that Canon people do not extend this resource to their digicam customers in all countries...
