Canon is already starting their pricing games, they changed their white paper already. The first one says it will retail for $3,999.00, now canon has removed that and states this "Actual prices are set by dealers and prices may vary.".

What you bunch of BS, also IR is catering to Canon, because they changed their white paper, their first one had $3,999.00 now go to download the new one from the site here and you will see that they changed it for Canon.

Canon must think that everyone in this world are idiots. They are heading for a PR nightmare, the will probably be named in about 500 class action law suits over their "SCAM BATES" I mean rebates, since they attained "Young America" to line their pockets even further with all the wrong UPC codes on the rebates nonsense.

This company has literally lost all it's integrity. OK Chuck, explain then altering the white page now, ridiculous.

This is it, I will never purchase another Canon product again....

I believe that this site was the first to post a preview with real samples worldwide of the 1Dmark III: bravo to IR! Canon did indeed make a mistake (maybe not evaluating carefully the amount of the rebates to be paid) and it's a shame. My opinion about Canon has changed since then. About this I do agree with the previous poster. But regarding the price of the camera I believe that Canon has the right to position the new entry depending on the market, of course Canon tends to get as much money as they can get. LOL About the camera (1D mark III) I have mixed feelings at the moment: I see that Canon did fix many problems of the current 1series like the battery and the single touch ISO but I'm not (yet) convinced about the quality of the pictures. The noise battle do increase the sales but it doesn't supposed to affect the details, and the Dynamic Range looks still a problem with digital...

Thanks for the great review. I am wondering if you can put online a few sRAW files too, I am interested in those...

I cannot get Zoombrowser 5.8 to be able to work with or edit in any way the 1DIII raw files. I can view them, but if I try to work with them I get the following error "Select a RAW image taken with a Canon camera". Any suggestions?..

Do you think Canon have shot themselves in the foot with this one? The MkIII will probably be regarded as the best non full frame camera in the world, so for the price of a 1DS Mk II you will (more or less) be able to buy a 5D and 1D Mk III. Im sure Canon must have a 1Ds Mk III in the pipeline, now that will be worth waiting for...

Clever remark, it makes sense looking at the recent developments:.

The 1Ds is not the only real alternative in studio anymore, and the segment is now in the hands of other cameras like the Hassy.

In other words Canon wants to get good money with the offer covering the best seller (segment) which is the Photo Journalism where is the best at the moment. Canon did shoot the first 1Ds (I have one) for a stellar price (that high) but now there are the Hasselblads. Canon needs to make a decision: if they want to stay in the segment they will have to produce larger lenses..

I am curious about this "Silent Mode" for single images. How quiet is it? My complaint with most of these pro DSLRs is their absurd noise. I cannot use them really at any performance without getting undue attention. I am hoping this silent mode will help alot with that, but it seems to be no more than a footnote on all the review sites...

I have allready pre-ordered one in Germany I dont see any reason to add 2500$ to get a 1Ds if the only difference is FF and 22 MP.

They must find something else .... I agree with Nick for the noise, I am shooting classical music concerts and it is allways a problem..

These Preiview Tests were rendered useless when the author decided to compare images using completely different lenses. Each lens (whether it's canon or nikon, etc...) reproduces color differently...

Canon Rox. All companies have rebate issues, just look at Sony?.

Really? Well, let me put it in this way: until Canon will send me the money they did promise I'll continue to publish my opinion about it.

When and if Sony will keep my money then I'll do the same. Fair enough? oh, and there is such an easy way to fix it: that Canon will finally pay the rebates, that would put the word "end" to it. Naturally. And since you are here offending another poster I need to see where you are from because you do talk like a Canon Rebate Program Guy. if not why would you do it? see my point?..

Nick, I use quit mode on both of my MarkIIN's and it is great for weddings and other events where I don't want that mirror slap to draw attention. After pressing the shutter the mirror will stay up until your release the button then it returns. It is setup by the Canon software. I hope this helps. Jay..

CanonSux wrote: "This is it, I will never purchase another Canon product again.. " Okay, as long as you can be satisfied with the photos you get with inferior equipment. Whatever!! You know you will buckle. woody..

I was kind of wondering about the silent mode too. The white paper says "The operation noise of the mirror going back down is approx. 77 dB for normal single shooting. In the silent single shooting mode, it is much quieter at approx. 70 dB." A 10% reduction in noise volume (if I am calculating that 77/70 thing right) does not sound that much more quiet to me. Unless the white paper had the wrong numbers or something...
