Canon A70 Faulty Image Chip
Hello everyone, Well after waiting 2 months for my A70 to come back from repair at Canon (they said that they were waiting on the new image chip), I must report that the camera is absolutely horrible. 9/10 shots are completely blurry even with the auto focus box (green box) displaying prior to the shot. Before the image chip failed, the camera took excellent pictures even without the auto focus box. When I had reported this to the tech at Canon his response was that I was extremely lucky that they were all good pictures without the auto focus. Well the camera is once again going back to the factory (not even after 2 weeks). This time if it isnt repaired within the acceptable 2 weeks as they state, Im going to demand that they send me another one.

Thanks in Advance,..

I JUST GOT A NEW SD450 FOR MOTHER'S DAY. HAVE PRETTY MUCH FIGURED OUT THE BASICS, BUT AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE "ZOOM BROWSER" WHEN MY CAMERA IS CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER THROUGH USB PORT. IT WON'T DOWNLOAD MY IMAGES FROM THE CAMERA. I AM RUNNING WINDOWS XP. ALTHOUGH, WHEN I PULL UP WINDOWS EXPLORER, THERE IS A FOLDER CONTAINING THE CAMERA NAME AND WHEN I CLICK ON THAT, IT DOES DISPLAY THE PICTURES. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHY I CANNOT DOWNLOAD INTO THE PROGRAM THAT CAME WITH THE CAMERA?..

To save on battery life, I don't even bother directly connecting a camera to a computer directly. Im not sure why exactly it wont read. If it is a vendor computer like Dell, HP or Sony (not custom built), with all of the junk software that they include it could be conflicting with your cameras software. You can buy a USB digital card reader for about $12 at any computer electronics store. They usually have a combo kit which will ready just about any card out there...

I had my A70 for 3 years now and recently the images have had lines in them covering the bottom half of the image both on the LCD and the photo itself. The problem occurs mostly in low light but it can occur at other times. I just sent it to Canon like you did and we'll see what they say? I do notice that it can go away if I tap the side of the camera...

I've had my A70 for about 3 years now and within the last several months the camera has been getting worse. The LCD display screen often has several thin lines running horizontally. The lense cover is stuck open and when you turn the camera off the zoom lense does not retract fully. The zoom lense must also be extended in order to take any clear pictures... very sensitive I have to tap the front of the lense when you power it on in order to see an image on the screen or to take a picture. It has been a good first digital camera but I'm ready to move on.

I should get it in 3 days and I am anxious to put the 6x optical zoom to use. I would like to see this one last a little longer but I must say that canon makes a good product overall and it did take a few spills over the years and was still pretty reliable. That is why I am sticking with their products. Great price, best camera for the money!..

You might try sending the a70 back to canon they just fixed mine for free with a similar horizontal line problem. Loose connector internally. Not sure about the lense stuck problem..

By the way Canon just made available the A710IS which has Image stabalization. For $400. You may want to consider that camera rather than the 700...

Posting for npolite - I returned my A70 for repair Oct 2005. It was in the box until this past September. All the pictures from the camera are now fuzzy and poor. This is not the same functioning camera that I sent to have the CCD repaired. Did you have any luck with Canon fixing your camera back to it's former picture taking quality?..
