We're off tomorrow for a camping weekend. I think I was avoiding the whole planning thing on my end of the food situation. Realized I had very FEW portable Medifast items so I've been doing mostly shakes and soups this past few days to avoid running out of pretzels, puffs and bars to take along. I'm going to cook up a couple of Medifast pancakes in the a.m. tomorrow to take for breakfast those two days..

I have a ton of cucumbers that were FREE!! So, I'm taking some of those for my green... wondering what else I'm going to get away with eating for green... camping and green don't really go together! Bought turkey burgers to grill while everyone else has burgers and dogs..

I'm not really afraid of "blowing it" or anything. There's no way I'd touch a real bread product (buns, muffins, pancakes, etc. - stuff the family will be eating) b/c I'm so afraid of the intestinal repercussions!! I'm just more afraid of being HUNGRY because I'm used to a huge salad every day and there's just no good way to bring those things along..

Have a good weekend! I'll try to post my weekly weigh-in tomorrow morning before we go...

Wouldn't bag salad keep in an ice chest for a few days? You can always use canned veggies (but rinse them first to get rid of the sodium) if nothing else..

You know you CAN do this! it will take some last minute planning and determination to say NO when everyone around you is eating camping meals. You will do great this weekend, don't let the food issue get in the way of your fun!!..

I went for a few days a couple of weeks ago, and just threw a couple of bags of Romaine and bell peppers in the cooler and took a couple of cans of chicken from Costco. Eazy peazey. I thought it was a lot easier than a previous trip where everybody wanted to eat out everyday..

Have fun!..

They are more pricey but the salads in a bag or any of the pre-cut veggies in a bag in the produce section would hold up great in an ice chest. Good luck I am sure you will find a way to stay on plan and have a great time with your family...

Don't they have the plastic bins of salad mix at your stores there? I love them! Less shopping and cheaper that way..

Anyhooo, have fun!!!..

Hi Kim! I'm from Maryland too! And going camping next week. I'm a little nervous about it, but I think it will be fine. Even before MF, I used to take along bagged salad and it stayed fresh in the cooler (we have one for food and one for drinks). You can double bag it in a huge zip lock bag if you want to make sure that it doesn't get water logged. Both tuperware and zip lock bags work well; sometimes I double bag items to make sure they don't get wet! I'm planning on taking my pancakes, soups, bars, pretzels/puffs and I bought three premixed shakes because I don't trust the water from the tap unless it is cooked! Then I will just eat my lean and green with everyone else minus the extra carbs they are having. I'm thinking it will work out just fine! Good luck and have a great time camping! I hope you have great weather!..

Have fun and give feedback when you return. I am going next weekend with my daughter's GS troop. They will be doing the cooking so I am thinking of just cooking some chicken breast & hamburgers before and just throwing them on the fire to warm.....and of course bags of salad with cut veggies....May even weigh and bag seperately for each day...

Have fun!! I am camping this weekend too!.

I think grilled zucchini is going to be a good way to go on the veggies.....

I went camping last weekend. We had grilled steak, squash, mushrooms, peppers. We also had chicken kabobs made with vegetables. Next time we go I will take along MSF burgers to throw on the grill to heat when the others have burgers. I take my pretzels to eat while they have chips. Celery and peanut butter is a good snack.

Oatmeal in the morning in hot water while the others had pancakes and sauage. The kids made somemores and although I helped put them together, I wasn't even tempted! With a little planning ahead, you can fit right in with the group and still stay OP...

Thanks everyone!! GREAT suggestions! And, yes, I'm the dork who didn't even considering bring bagged salad along. Maybe I can grab some before we head out today. AND I remembered yesterday that I have about a half dozen beautiful purple bell peppers that I just got from our organic produce co-op! Those will be fun!..
