Cameras with Fstop and aperture or focus adjustment under $400
Hello gods of DPReview! I've got probably a simple question, but one I can't figure outI'd like to upgrade from my current Canon 750IS to a small-format camera that has more adjustments, like manual focus, or aperture/fstop adjustmentsbut I don't think I'm reading the specs correctly on the DP reviews, as I can't figure out how you can tell if the reviewed camera supports these modes..

Am I being a dork (probably) and just missing an obvious line in the specification charts? Can someone rec a relatively cheap camera that's good and has some more adjustments? (I think my old blocky Powershot had some of those options.).

Thank you so much! Such a fan of the DPReview forums!.

Go the 'buying guide' (top left of the page) and select 'features search'. Half way down, select 'Yes' for both 'Aperture Priority' and 'Shutter Priority'. If the camera has these modes, it means that you can set both aperture and shutter speed manually. I selected 'compact' for camera type, and $400 for price limit, and found a wide selection of hits..

Best wishesMike..

Ever notice how when you want something, the item that you really truely want costs a little more than you planned on spending for it?.

These are selling between $400-$500 (the last one I sold out of my camera store, brand new in a box, was $399.99 - all out, sorry):.

Panasonic FZ50:.

I have one of these, along with a DSLR (and three other digitals).and I love it!.

10MP, 12X (35-420mm) Leica lens, manual zoom ring, manual focus ring, separate dials for shutter speed and aperture, flip down LCD, electronic viewfinder.one sweet camera!.

Thank you both! That's what I was looking for, priority, that means manual. Ok, got it.   And I was also looking for a rec, so this is perfect. A little on the high-end, which means I may wait a little before buying it. But Lumix is good? Better than Fuji?..

Fuji makes some similar cameras, however, they are more expensive..

I also have an older model of one of Fuji's similar cameras.the Fuji S602Z..

I really like it, but I think the Panasonic's are the better cameras, especially that Leica lens!.

Unless you can still find a Fuji S6000fd.it is a step down from the FZ50, but still a nice camera none the less, and sought after by many!.

They are still available, but hard to find, selling for around $400..

Now, if you really like the Panasonic I mentioned in my above post, I do know where you can still get the 8MP FZ30, the previous model (which is almost completely identical to the one I pictured) for under $350 brand new in a box..

Panasonic FZ30:.

There are many who think that this one is better than the newer model.however, I think they are equal..

Here they are side by side (FZ50 at left, FZ30 at right).

The word "manual" does get loose treatment. Some cameras have a Manual menu option. But when you get there all that can be set is ISO and WB! In the less expensive point-and-shoot cameras AE lock is much more common than an actual manual mode. But this does give you a lot of exposure control. Also, Aperture priority is more common than manual mode. About the least expensive cameras with manual mode are the Canon A-series.

Canon SX100 also has actual manual mode, sells for under $300. Sony provides manual mode at about that same price level in their H3 and W200 models..
