Camera phone takes better pictures? (3 images)
I recently commented to a different forum about a guy's picture..

I wasn't trying to be offensive. I said, and I quote "your camera or post processing stinks". Yeah, I know...in retrospect, I was slammed hard for it deservedly so..

I think his camera or pp stinks. Am I out of line here? He puts himself out there as a big time photog of birds...and we get this....

I posted to the same thread a picture of a bird I took with my Rebel XT and Sigma 28-300.

Just for CLARITY of the picture...not so much about how well the subject was displayed...again, I get it...you can't really see the whole bird. The Bokeh is decent, the bird is clear...shrug...I think it's a better pic..

I then posted a picture I had taken soon after..

Image control:Zoom outZoom 100%Zoom inExpand AllOpen in new window.

I get it again. The picture isn't perfectly focused. The colors are pretty good and the bokeh is decent. It was with my less than perfect 28-300..

I still think either picture is better than the pixellated mess the other guy posted..

I had one person tell me that his camera phone would take better pictures..

I don't get it. I realize the limitations some folks are up against taking a PS camera for pictures. I have a KM Z6 that takes great pictures...I would't' tell a guy with a DSLR that I could take a better shot with my camera phone...

Perhaps he has bandwidth limitations, so he MUST post a highly compressed image. IF I use my imagination, I can perhaps see that it was a nice picture. The other two, however, need no imagination at all..

In general, it is best to avoid a flame-war at all cost. No sense in having a battle-of-wits with an unarmed person ..

Must remember that one ..

Instead of saying "your camera or post processing stinks", how about saying....

"I'm just not getting this shot, it seems over-processed and rather noisy to me. Can you explain what I'm looking at so I can know how to better give you C&C?".

After which, he might reply. Yeah, it does look pretty grainy. It was near the end of the day and I bumped up the ISO. Also, I was using a rather cheap telephoto. But I posted it because it is a very rare bird and even if I was a 1/10th mile away I thought I'd share it..

Another possibility is that the person's post-processing does indeed suck eggs. In which case, you could have helped him. But not anymore. He won't listen to a thing you say ever again...

Freerepublic isn't exactly known for the intelligence of it's users..

Sorry to say, but this post doesn't show your posting habits in the best light. Don't know about the "other forum", but here, after a thread disintigrates into name calling, you'd see all sorts of strange arguments..

When provoked, people will defend themselves in strong language. And since photography is not an exact science, it's possible to find fault with any image..

Saying "you stink" is not a critique; it's a provocation. After a beginning like this, you don't have a discussion, but rather, a shouting match..

Now you extract a remark from that heated discussion and bring it here, without a link, so we can't see the whole story, and ask for comments. What, exactly, do you mean to accomplish by this?.

Boris..

Excuse me, but you posted the guy's pic here? Without express permission? And then slam him again? That's just not cool and you should have better sense than that..

Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill...

This guy is a troll. This is his only post during the last four months...
