Just a bit more info for requirements.

Need a camera with good battery life. won't be able to recharge for days. Self timer that's adjustable 30 secs or longer. Good in very low light and can focus in pitch dark at least to take a flash photo at wide angle mounted on a tripod...

Not asking ofr much, are you? (G).

Good luck with that set of requirements. I'd like to see that camera myself!.

May I suggest something in the Pentax or Olympus lines. Th reason is that they both make a more-or-less waterproof camera. Simple, easy to use, push the button and get on with your business cameras..

They will not focus reliably in total darkness without some sort of assist, no camera will..

Look for one powered by AA batteries, as you can get those anywhere. If that isn't going to work, you can always buy a couple of spare Li batteries..

The most BRILL PLAICE to to buy a SOLE fish camera that doesn't give too much WHITING and wont put you back too many SQUID and not CRAB your style is a Nikon, are you HERRING what I'm saying? Are you a professional or just a SNAPPER? Whatever camera you get keep it safe in a LEATHERJACKET and don't let the RAYS of the sun spoil your pictures. For delayed action use a TRIGGERFISH.Jules.

Why can't you blow bubbles with chewing gum?..

Great post, but perhaps not what the OP wanted to hear!.

I think we are trying to put too much into a little camera (I assume little since you probably don't want to drag an SLR with a host of lenses fishing). The 30 second self timer will be almost impossible on a small camera..

Just get an infra-red release or an electronic release and it will solve your problems. Also you want a camera with a focus assist lamp for night shooting..

The canon Powershot G6 (older, but readily available) comes WITH an infra-red remote, focus assist lamp, and has a host of battery options. Just get 2 batteries if you think you will be shooting more than 300 shots between charges..

It has a 7 MP sensor (big enough for 13 x 19 prints) and an LCD you can move around for difficult shots and a 35-140mm lens.Only drawback- it's a bit pricey at about $600..

If you can scale back your needs a bit- it might be worth picking up a new Fuji F50FD, which is a great low-light camera, but has no remote or long timer available. But it can be had for the $300 range and it is far smaller than the others..

And then there's the Nikon coolpix 8800 which has a remote control included, but does not have a focus lamp. It is also an excellent camera but will probably run you around $500 if you can find one used..

Oh, and I almost forgot-.

There is the Pentax Optio 750Z. It has an optional remote available. Has the swivel LCD screen, focus assist lamp, and is not very big. If you can find one, I've seen them sell for $3-400..

DjediOld timer..

Try Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops online stores. There are several good quality water resistant point and shoot digitals out there at affordable prices. Darrell..

(1) punctuation helps you get your point across,(2) I saw nothing in Jules' post that was disrespectful,(3) don't take life so seriously you won't get out of it alive..

Thanks Ed, I was just trying to brighten up the day and add a little humour to what can become a bit of a nerdy forum. It takes all types.Jules.

Whenever I go to deep sea fishing I bring with me Pentax Optio W20 ( I think they made W30 now), and I can wash out all of the salt on mycamera on the sink with fresh water daily. You also can use the Olympus camera...
