B&H Photo?
Has any one else had issues like this with B&H? I know of at least one other person that had a delay for verification but I'm a little suprised at the way they handled this..

Surprised by what? A holiday, or B&H taking responsible care to make sure it's customers aren't victimized?.

I expect that level of service that some other businesses don't provide...

How about suprised that they go on the internet and argue with a customer after the poster clearly requested to handle the matter in private. If that's customer service I can do with out it. Not to mention that Henry clearly stated that he did NOT respond to the guys email...

Why in the world would you think we have the patience to read thoujgh a huge string of messages to find something you were not .... enough to flag?.

I gave up after half a dozen posts about holiday hours..

I'm sorry if this disturbed you. The fact is the person in question made statements about his experiences which were pejorative and demonstrably untrue and did so in public. I replied and advised him that I'd share personal details of the transaction via e-mail which I did. I didn't reply to his subsequent email because there didn't seem to be anything further to say. After all, someone has to have the last word and sometimes it's NOT me..

Happily a thread in POTN's "General Chat" forum takes a more measured view of the situation. As one chap put it, "This ... character chose to take the whole thread off-topic with a rant about B&H shipping practices. It has no bearing on their holiday schedule (the original topic of the thread in question) ...but he chose to make it an issue in an open forum...he raised the question and Henry responded. No details were given of the order....so the whole ... (he) was wronged by open discussion point is invalid.

Henry Posner is an honorable man, which is more than can be said for a couple of posters in that thread.".

Since you (or someone there using the same screen name you use here) started the POTN thread, I presume you knew this already. Hopefully that's the last word on this. .

My Dad bought his camera from them on my advice: NO problems!.

I've bought some supplies & actually been to the store in Manhattan, it's pretty interesting..

Anyone has a problem with them being Jewish & taking subsequent holidays to celebrate their faith, then you can take your business elsewhere..

Oh, BTW, anyone got a problem with this post, then you can quit celebrating Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, etc. I mean, you need to show up to work or school or whatever on those days, NO sitting at home!.

I don't think it was any big deal. I think the other guy just got his nose out of joint. Nobody knew his real name anyway..

Moreover, I wouldn't mind if a store mentioned my transaction on a forum. Not enough was mentioned to in any way breach privacy...

True. Sorry, I guess I was venting more in general..

Well, strictly speaking, you, as a customer, aren't getting any benefits of this verification. Well, unless you're a customer and your credit card number got stolen and someone tries to use it at B&H. It's mainly for B&H itself so that they don't get stuck with bad charges..

At the same time, it is responsible and beneficial for the credit card users in general. This is like airport searches, except it works. Plus, I don't particularly consider it too invasive. Yes, it delayed my order the very first time I ordered from them, but all subsequent orders shipped promptly and without any delays...

We live in an era of rampant credit card fraud and identity theft and responsible retailers are bound both ethically and by agreements signed with our merchant banks to do what's possible to deter this type of piracy. This is particularly true for so-called card-absent transactions like phone/mail orders and web orders..

This verification process protects you from the pirate who thinks he can shop with us freely at your unsuspecting expense. It also helps ensure that merchandise you ordered and paid for ends up in your hands and not in those of some clever opportunist..

As banks make more and more outlandish promises of security to current and prospective card holders they make more and more demands on retailers to ensure this security. Until some clever person figures out a way to abolish card fraud and identity theft, you'll see more and more of this. Stores which don't exercise safe, prudent, & effective security measures are simply gambling they won't become the unwitting vehicle by which some clever pirate abuses YOUR accounts..

While I understand that it's our job to make your shopping experience as painless and efficient as possible, part of that process is ensuring we don't unwittingly allow you to become victimized through our carelessness or nonfeasance..
