best point and shot for low light condition ?
Are there any other cameras besides fujifilm f30/f31fd and f50fd for low light conditions / high iso performance ? .

I want something compact, I'm not interested in manual controls, just portability, image quality, specially under low light conditions (which actual P&S performs very badly, specially when using optical zoom)..

Thanks!..

Fuji set the bar with the F31 and that's why the eBay and Amazon prices are so exorbitant..

You should look at the F20 or F40 since neither have manual controls and have outstanding low light performance. The only difference between them is the F40 can use either xD or SD cards and it comes with a separate battery charger..

The F40fd is rated by many user's as having better IQ than the F50 and can be found for around $150 while the F20 is at $100.Regards,Hank.

Ok, so my target would be one of:.

F30/f31fdf20/f40.

I'd love to get a f30/31 but it's quite hard to find, specially in Argentina.I should keep an eye open for f20/40 as well..

So, correct me if I'm wrong: f20/40 is basically an f30/f31fd with no manual control and less ISO (~2000 at some modes instead of 3200)..

Is there any big difference between those besides the mentioned above?.

ThanksAlex.

No big difference. I have F20 and am very happy with it.I have not missed manual control much...

Canon SD series & Nikon P&S cameras also perform well in low light. e.g. Canon SD950IS, 870IS. Nikon S700, S510, L15, S200..

Fuji does well but they do use some heavy handed Noise reduction. Some alternatives would be the Canon A640 or A650. The Samsung NV8 or NV15 would also be great. All of these use a larger sensor like the Fuji Fxx series but with a much lower amount of Noise Reduction..

If you really, really want a low light machine, look at a 6MP Pentax DSLR with a shorter prime lens...

I have the A610 which has a 1/1.8 sensor and outstanding IQ but unuseable at ISO400 but my wife's F40 blows it away in low light indoor situations using ISO800.Regards,Hank.
