Best Digital camera? Low cost, point and shoot.
Hi, I'm in the market for a new camera and want to get some opinions and feedback first. My previous camera was a Fuji f460. Had no problems with it for 2 years and it took good pictures. Recently my ccd sensor went out and I sent it to Fuji for repair. That has been almost 2 months ago. They keep telling me they are "waiting on the part" and "may never get it".

So, frustrated and irritated I figure it may be time to just find another camera. I don't need anything fancy but I do want a good point and shoot that takes decent pictures and doesn't have a big delay between shots. I don't want to spend a lot right now so I'm looking for the best lower end camera. Not plain out cheap but prefferable below $200. I also do not want anything that takes AA batteries, I prefer the Lithium Ion with charger..

I've looked at the Fuji f50fd and F40fd and also some Olympus..

I'm not stuck on any particular brand right now I just would like some ideas and suggestions.Thanks!..

F40fd is good if you shoot lot of indoor photos. Else avoid as it does not have I.S..

Consider Canon SD1100IS, which has optical viewfinder too. Or Fuji F100fd with wide angle and 5x zoom..

I do have the F40fd since one year as a point and shoot camera..

I really love it. The picture quality is stunning. The camera is very easy to handle. And it does have a Picture Stabilization Mode. You can get the camera at beachcamera.com for $179...

That "picture stabilization is done by boosting ISO (which facilitates faster shutter speeds to mitigate the effect of shake). However that results in noisy images. Such mode is available in most recent cameras. What I meant was "Mechanical Image Stabilization"..

Good luck finding a Canon SD1100 under $200. The Oly FE-340 and Panasonic FS3 are not too shabby shot-to-shot, do have some nice features..

Keep in mind that the F40 is very good at high ISOs (nearly as good as the F30) with it's large sensor. Its not the best camera and it's certainly not the most feature packed, but it's cheap and got excellent IQ thats up there with twice as expensive cams despite missing mechanical IS or long zoom. That's the compromise for price...

I found an Canon SD1100 for $200. I also have looked at the Canon sd870 and found it for $230 and also the Sony Cybershot DSC W-130 for $165. Anybody have any comments on which would be the better pick and why. I'm wanting something that doesn't have a lot of delay from picture to picture as well as take good pictures. I haven't been able to find many reviews on the Sony though..

I am impressed with the Canon sd870 and willing to go the extra price if it's better...

I'd recommend the 870 over the 1100 for the wide angle and 3" lcd. I don't think there would be any significant difference in IQ. I am not familiar with the Sony...
