Don't know if it will help at all but I posted a similar question (after the fact) about the NAIAS in Detroit:.

Too late, but I hope things turned out well..
Any entertainment tonight? I enjoyed a Burton Cummings concert a few years ago there, standing about 15 feet from him..
But I'm not on the invite list any more, and I missed the PWC Auto Summit yesterday because I was proof-reading lat mnutes changes to a newspaper section..
Seems like I'm going to have to buy a ticket and go next week..

BAK.
Last year was Randy Bachman and Billy Joel. This year I caught Bedouin Soundclash at the Toyota stage and April Wine at the GM pavilion. Not too bad all around..
Quickly found out that the DOF of the 50mm lens is just too tight to use in the show environment. If you want to take in a whole car, you need to be too far back, risking having people step into your shot..
On the upside, I did get some candids of my GF and parents with the 50mm without having to use the flash..
In the end, the 18-200 did pretty well. I think to use primes in that environment, you need to stick to the 18-30mm range. The only time I went deep with the 18-200 was for some long shots of the bands playing. Still not the greatest shots due to the lighting, but we'll see what happens once I pull them into Aperture tomorrow..
Also in general the lighting at the autoshow was the opposite of what I expected - bright, but too many spotlights... hard to get a decent flashless shot when there's 5-10 spotlights reflecting off the car...
Are there models there as well? I've never been to one so I am curious. It seems that models with cars is as natural as peanut butter and jam..
In shots from their website it looks very stuffy with only execs in suits hanging around. Maybe you have to go to the second tier car shows like Speedorama or something for that...

It's the "Black Tie" gala that I went to... I didn't see any models... just old guys with grey hair and a lot of trophy wives..
The show opens to the public today, and yes... a lot of models - mainly in the periphery / tuner booths / accessories, etc.....
Http://www.flickr.com/photos/23848529@N07/ for some of the pics from that night. The first dozen were from my GF wielding my old Canon S400...
The black tie night is before the offocial opening, and is by invitation only. A few mewdia (media get their time during the day) but mostly bankers and accountants and lawyers and people who own dealerships with a few of their fleet buyers, etc..
Free food all over the place, first tier performers that are likely to appeal to an older audience, etc..
I got there in the past through connections with an accounting firm that has a team of automovie industry specialists (from there the story gets complicated; I;'m not an accountant although I dod some work for car companies).
