Are there any wide-angle consumer digitals?
Hi guys, thanks for your attention. I'm not up-to-date with current digital cameras market. Could you name digital models with wide angle? I'm seeking for a small camera like Canon IXUS, though 35mm wide is not quite wide for me. Any advice will do..

Thanks in advance..

Yes, wide-angle compacts are increasing in numbers and popularity..

From the existing models, there is the Canon SD800-IS and SD870-IS (not sure what their IXUS/IXY name are), Nikon P50, most of the Panasonic FX-series models, and such. They all start at the 28mm equivalent..

From the ones announced in 2008, we go wider. The Samsung NV24hd starts at 24mm, the Panasonic FX35 starts at 25mm, and a number of others starting at 28mm, such as the Casio EX-Z200, EX-Z100, Olympus FE350, Stylus 1030sw, Sony W170, Nikon S600, GE E1050, and Fuji F100fd (with 1/1.6" SuperCCD sensor)..

Also some of the superzooms start wide, but they are certainly not small compacts like you described..

The bottom line is what do you call wide. On an SLR, 28mm equivalent is barely wide - wider than normal perspective, yes, but not wide like 15mm wide....

But are you taking in equivalent lenses? 28 on a crop vs FF? 28 could still be quite a bit then..

Those wide shots were shot on a FF camera at 15mm. Shooting 28mm on a crop is like 50mm on a FF, which isn't that wide...

If wide angle is important to you, the Ricoh GX100 becomes an option:http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/ricohgx100/.

It might be a little bit too big and too expensive, but it has a lovely 24 mm wide angle. Make sure you check out the cheaper Ricohs though - there are other options now, but for a long time they were almost alone in doing wide angle..

Others already mentioned the other options. Just make sure you don't automatically go for Canon - they're about the weakest brand when it comes to wide angle.http://flickr.com/photos/iskender..
