Canon SD870IS. While it only has 4x zoom, it does have a 28mm wide angle lens, great for landscapes. Also IS and great image quality...
Thanks for the suggestion. It does look good in terms of the image quality, weight and wide angle lens, but the zoom isn't really enough for what I'm looking for (given that it only goes up to 105mm, which is the same as my old Pentax Optio s4)...
Have a look at the Canon SD890IS, which has a 5x zoom, though not much wide angle.Androohttp://Androo.smugmug.com..
Fuji F100fd (sharp lens, good IQ, wide angle 5x zoom)..

Thanks, the SD890 doesn't look bad, apart from the not so wide angle. Worth considering though...

Photo samples I've seen look really good. If only it weren't over 200g (I know I'm picky!)...
I would go Canon A650 or Samsung NV15. They use a bigger sensor and will produce the best IQ short of an SLR...

I know the Canon is a good camera (a friend has one), but unfortunately it is way too large (both in size and weight) I'd definitely be back in bad shoulder territory if I carried that one around on holiday..
Also, the NV15 only has 3x zoom, so even if the image quality is good, it's zoom isn't enough (I do use the 5x zoom on my T100 quite a bit)..
Thanks for the suggestions though...
I have to admit that my NV15 shooting is mainly street shooting where the wide end is almost exclusively used...

With 8mp, the 870 can use a fair amount of digital zoom and still produce a great 8x10. It's also very small..
You should probably look at the Panasonic TZ5. I did, and still bought the Canon...
How about the Panasonic TZ5?.
Wide angle lens, 10x zoom, high res big LCD...

Does the 870 have a smart zoom feature where you can drop to a lower mp and get more zoom? That would help. I'm sure I could do it manually with the digital zoom (and get more of a zoom), but automatically would be nice..
I did have a look at an SD970 in Jessops today (that was the only one they had in my local store that was close to what I want), and that was quite comfy to hold, and had 5x zoom. I'm going to do some more checking on that one - can't see it in the Canon camera database on this site for some reason. Anyone out there with one of these who would like to comment?.
I'd love the 10x zoom on the TZ5, but it's definitely too big (physically)...

This would be good if it weren't so big, I know it's classed as a compact, but it's still too big for me unfortunately..
That's why I was thinking of the Panny FX500, the zoom isn't as good as the TZ5, but it's a lot smaller...
