Adobe Elements 6.0
Is it just me, or does anyone else find this program a little hard to handle? For example, (using the organizer) I can't figure out where it creates and saves catalogs, and when I try to move one I seem to get in some kind of circular pattern of dialog boxes..

The whole thing about captions barely gets a mention in the help section. I don't know if you "write" properties to the metadata of the file, the caption is part of what is written..

Anyway, that is part of my rant and now I feel better!! Maybe I should just be happy it is such a comprehensive program and the fault is mine for not spending more time with it.Leigh..

The problem as programs get "better" is that they get more complicated..

I use Photoshop Elements 2 and 4 right now, and mostly stick with 2 because it's easier and quicker..

I'll probably get "real" photoshop shoon, as part of the CS design suite of products, and I spent some time in the book store last night looking at manuals on how to use this stuff..

I think there needs to be two sets of instructions one for the useful things, and the other for the millions of "isn't that amazing but who cares" fancy tricks..

IMO, the PSE Organizer is the worst organizer out there. It is for masochists too cheap to pay for a good spanking..

The great thing is that you don't have to use the PSE organizer. My advice is to buy a good organizer like Imatch or ACDSee and set it up to use the PSE editor only. (the PSE editor and the organizer are two separate programs)STOP Global Stasis! Change is good!.

No, it's not just you. I gave up on the Organizer back when I got PSE2, I think..

I use Lightroom now as a front-end to PSE6. That means I don't have to use PSE6 as much as before, since LR does a great job with the simple editing tasks (those things that don't require selections and/or layers). LR is fast! A great photo database. Try it....

I am NOT to cheap to pay for a good spanking.... Uuhhhhh, that didn't come out correctly... !!! LOL..

I just ordered ACDsee 10.0 from Amazon, so I thank you for your recommendation. I will be interested to see if it will import my Elements catalogs..

Thanks!.

It is good to know there are still people in the world willing to pay for a job well done!.

I think you're going to be a bit dissapointed on that issue, ACDSee doesn't import PSE catalogs to my knowledge. As far as I know, Lightroom is the only organizer that imports PSE catalogs, and if I recall, even THAT import is not that satisfactory..

Actually, none of the organizers play all that well with the competition. Though my ACDSee 8 conversion to ACDSee Pro2 went smoothly.

Even So, I personally think any 'redo' work that you have to do will be worth it to get into a decent organizer. (But then I don't have to do the work!).

STOP Global Stasis! Change is good!.

I've been using Lightroom and recently downloaded a trial for PSE6. After a week of struggling with PSE6 I deleted it from my hard drive and went on taking pictures. It might have helped if there were a manual but there isn't.Patrick T. KellyOaxaca, Mexico..

I actually bought Lightroom as soon as it came out. It crashed a few times, so I un installed it. I see they have come out with various updates, so I should take another run at it.Does it make a duplicate set of images as you crate the catalog?Leigh..

I do not use ANY organizer. I have my pics in a folder with many subfolders and that is broken down, somtimes to other subfolders. this is all done on subject matter. for example, in my pics(main folder) I have a travel folder in that are any of the trips I have taken by place and if needed and named separately by date. I use pe6 all the time. I also have cs2.

I have had pe2, pe3, pe4, pe5, and now pe6; I have not used the organizer in any of them..

If I am going to be making a slide show, I use premier elements 4.0. premier elements does more and you can make burn dvds in it...

No. Just thumbnails. It NEVER touches the original! All the edits you make are simply stored in a sidecar file, which is small. When you are through, you CAN decide to export a revised copy (or you can leave and come back later...LR will be right where you left it). LR helps you with things like changing the file name (when you export) so you can tell the difference between the original and the revised copy (I have LR add ".LR" to the file name)..

It's fast because it actually never touches the original (big) files until you export the changes...it just reads the sidecar file with the edits..

I hope you solve your computer problems..

Ahhhh. The minimalist approach. There is a lot to be said for that. Yes, sometimes I just browse through pictures looking at the details section (or whatever it's called) at the bottom of Windows Explorer (Vista)..

I guess I must be weird, because I've tried the various different programs out there, and so far I have to say that I actually like the PSE organizer the best. Is it perfect? Nope, but as I've played with it more, I'm starting to figure out how to do everything I want. Lightroom is close though, and so far I've been playing with both to decide which one I can make work most like I'd like to do..

I think about the only software I haven't tried so far is Aperture because I don't have access to a mac..

Now, I'll admit that my needs are relatively simple. Basically something that I can go in and tag photos and search through them...

I bought ACDSee and installed it today. It is pretty neat, but I probably won't change from Elements. I have too much time invested in it, but I still feel it is not friendly in the way I need for the reasons earlier stated..

Anyway, ACDSee was about fifty bucks, and I'll try to get that much fun out of it.Leigh..
