A picture is worth a thousand words ......
While I am not a total newbie, I do have various questions at times, and there are things that happen to my photographs that I'm not sure what they are , or why they happened that way !!... There are terms that are thrown around every forum that one should really know , or you might as well not be reading it ...Not only should you know the terms, but one should also know what the term not only means, but what it looks like in the real world of photography ....On to my question ....Is there a site where you can look up a photography term, and actually SEE what it means, and what it looks like when it happens ?....EXAMPLES PLEASE !!..... I can read many books on many different subjects, and they can talk all day about something , and I could STILL be totally lost .....Give me another book on the same subject that shows a couple of examples, and I am now learning, because I am seeing and understanding more about what I'm reading ......BIG difference !!... Can anyone reccomend a book or a site that gives visual examples of what these various terms mean by actually SEEING what's going on ?....I mean isn't photography a visual art ? .......Thanks for your time and consideration ...Jim..

No one book or site can do it all. I suggest heading down to your local library or bookstore to thumb through several books..

Search for John Hedgecoe - I have an older book by him (prolific writer, he's probably written a million different ones) titled "The Photographer's Handbook" that I received as a gift which I like - covers a lot of topics and has plenty of pics/illustrations:.

That Tamron depth-of-field comparison site is very impressive; it's a great visual example of the effects of focal length and aperture on depth of field. It's a topic I've tried to explain to people many times, but it's great to be able to see and play with it in real time...

This is the best tool I have seen so far. It shows you exactly what happens to a picture based on what setting you choose..

The picture of the dog changes based on the setting you choose. Try it, click on "change f-stop" then drag the slider across the different f-stop values and you will see the different effect on the image. You can do this with all the other setting available in your camera..

It simulates the camera in P, AV, TV or M modes. For example to see how the picture will come out if you were in AV mode click on "Aperture Priority" then choose the setting you want and the image will change based on those settings..

Hope it helps ..
