What exactly is the 4-2 plan?.

Advantages, disadvantages as compared to the 5-1 plan?.

Differences in portion sizes?.

I find myself constantly waiting for my L&G so I was just curious.....

4&2 is 4 Medifast meals and 2 full l&g. Mostly this is for people with more to lose or who exercise a lot and need additional calories. It is also the basis for the diabetic program which includes a daily snack in the written plan..

Some have done 4&2 successfully. The only time I did it was when I went on a cruise and Nutrisystem suggested this due to planned increased activity and a more normal eating pattern while on vacation..

Personally, for the amount of weight you have to lose, I think the 5&1 is going to get you there faster...

Nutrisystem recommends 4&2 for people with more than 50 pounds to lose. I also see people doing it when they have higher-than-normal exercise levels..

If you're waiting for your L&G, try moving it to lunch, or splitting it between lunch and dinner. I can't eat my L&G for dinner, I'd never make it through the afternoon...

I usually have soup for lunch. I add 1/3 of my Lean (chicken or pork) and 1/3 of my Green (usually spinich) and add these both to my soup. I simmer until the spinich wilts to my liking. This meal keeps me full ALL afternoon. I have to force my mid afternoon snack, 3 hours later. I still have 2/3 of my L&G left over for dinner. This way, I sort of feel I am eating 4&2, but really staying on 5&1...

I stopped losing after the first 25 pounds or so on 5/1,,,so with the aid of a Medifast nutritionist, we worked out the 4/2, and I sped along to goal,,,i only had 44 total to lose. I am, however, very active in my job,(hairstylist on the move all day!) plus was into my 50's by then, so I am sure all that played into it. Fact is, we are all different, our bodies burn calories differently, so this needs to be a choice you make with the help of a nutritionist...

Medifast meals - approx 100 cals and 15 carbs.

L & G meals - 250-400 calories and 15 carbs.

5 and 1 = 500 + (250-400 calories in 1 L & G meal) = 750-1100 calories and 90 carbs.

4 and 2 = 400 + (500-800 calories in 2 L & G meals) = 900-1300 calories and 90 carbs.

This info is from my health coach on the two plans..
