Well, one might ask what it is you're looking for when you say info/advice: do you want peoples' experiences with them, are you trying to decide whether to keep one vs. the other... or are you looking for an explanation of what they can do for you and what they are like, technically?..

What they can do for me and what they are like, technically?..

Seems like you'd want to ask these questions before buying them but hey what do I know... put them on your camera and see what they do for you as forum fodder really doesn't matter since they are yours now...

I can return them and I did research them but as a beginner, I would like input from others that have shot with these lenses or have any information that they could pass along to me. Do you like the lens, do you not, good quality, etc...

What do other peoples opinions matter if you bought them and are happy with how they perform for you. the rest really doesn't matter if they do the job you expect them to for the money you were willing to spend for them regardless of being a beginner or not..

I'd wonder why you'd buy 2 lenses with the focal length overlap you did but that's just me. mount them, try them out and pick which one YOU want to keep plain and simple. our opinions simply shouldn't matter in any regard as you have them there in front of you to use and test to see which one make you happy...

OK, so you do want a bit of all of the above here. I don't have experience with either of these specific lenses, but from a basic standpoint:.

-the Tamron gives you more reach, starting at a long-portrait length and going to a long telephoto for terrific reach. It has a macro setting for closeup detail photos. I expect it's a little heavier/longer..

-the Canon goes from a short-portrait length to a slightly less-long telephoto reach. It has Image Stabilization, which folks say is great to have especially on telephoto lenses..

Conclusion: These are two similar telephoto consumer zoom lenses, with the same maximum apertures (f/4 - f/5.6) Unless one of these is known to be not a good performer, or you don't like the way one feels/works, I'd sell one..

-If you need the extra reach, keep the Tamron..

-If you find the Canon long enough, keep that as it has a more "normal" short end..

**I guess it also depends on which might complement another (shorter?) focal-length lens you might be getting in the future? Good luck...

Thank you JChristian. I have a canon rebel with the 18-55mm is this what you meant by the shorter lens that it could complement?..
