I expected headaches and fatigue, but I feel worse than that- almost like I'm fighting off the flu. Sore throat, achy... this is my third day..

Anyone else feel this way at first? It kind of reminds me of when I quit smoking- back then I was sick for about a week..

Maybe I'm just a huge wimp....

LOL Yes it is a bit like quitting smoking. You're doing almost the same thing, you're detoxing. Yes a lot of us have felt the same way. If you can take naps, try a dill pickle spear (you can have 2/day) or a cup of low fat broth (1 cup/day) to help the symptoms..

KMSJ, You are not a wimp ! .

My first week was very tough too, but it's good to know that it's only temporary! .

You can do it! The first week is kinda like Medifast bootcamp!.

Hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Sandy.

Hi, I'm on my 7th day today. I have progressivly gotten better through the week. The first 3 days I had diarrhea then that time of the month came on the 4th day! I felt like I was being punished. By day 5 I was feeling "cleaner" and started to feel a little more energy. Yesterday and today, were smooth sailing-except for the cravings for salty tortilla chips (that's another story).

Let's both just hang in there and know others who have gone before us have survived and thrived. WE CAN DO THIS.

Hope you feel better today..

Thank you!! I really thought I was just a huge dork-baby. Now my nose is running, LOL.

The broth sounds good... does it need to be low sodium?.

No just low fat. You want some of that sodium, that's why the pickle or the broth..

Having the flu is exactly how I felt the first 5 days. I ached all over, had a headache and no energy at all. It sounds like you may have picked up a little cold virus too, though. I don't remember a sore throat and a runny nose although I think anything is possible the first few days of what is affectionately known as Medifast "Hell Week". Anyway, you should take is as easy as you can, drink lots of water, take Tylenol or Ibuprofen for the aches if you want to, eat ALL your meals even if you don't feel like it and just baby yourself a little like you do when you are sick. It will get better..

OH, and the broth and pickle that others have mentioned really does help. Sounds like a little thing but the broth/bouillon is what kept my headaches from becoming full blown monsters. I get the Herb-ox brand of bouillon cubes because they have no MSG..

The first 5 days I was OP, I was so sick~headaches, nausea, dizziness, exhaustion. On day 3 I literally wept, told my husband I would never NEVER be able to do this long term. Then after the first week all those symptoms went away. I started feeling healthier, more energetic, just overall great. I rarely get headaches now (I used to get them all the time~probably sugar related I'm guessing), and I feel like I can do anything. Stick with it~take tylenol/motrin, nap when you can, sip bouillon, and just tough it out. After a week you will be SO GLAD YOU DID!.

Yes Yes Yes!!! I remember it well. To me, it was like a bad hangover. Ugh. Boullion in my soups helped, as did adding Crystal Light "Pure" (I count it as a condiment, your mileage may vary). My dr. recommended it b/c of headaches that lasted past the first weeks.

believe it or not, it's worth it..

My first 4 days were "surreal" felt very fatigued and overwhelmed by the diet Day 5 was much better hang in there it'll get better!.

Thank you guys so much. I am now feeling like I have a low-grade fever. Like I said, this feels just like quitting smoking. I'm wondering if my immune system does something weird when I'm detoxing off a substance....

One more question: Does the broth count as my snack for the day? Also, I heard somewhere two cups but it seems like maybe it's really one?.

Ah-ha!.

I just thought of something- I was put on a week's worth of steroids the day I started Medifast (what luck.) Don't steroids lower your immune system? Perhaps that has made me more vulnerable to this stuff....
